Valentines dinner. We booked late, and the staff could not of been more accommodating. Food was delicious . Large portions . Steak was one of the best either of us have had (rib eye and sirloin). What Andy Jäger doesn't like about Rancho Steak House:
Locals beware: this place is only getting good reviews from tourists with extremely low standards. The place is honestly shockingly bad if you’re expecting a British steakhouse. Booked a while in advance and turned up to find our table for 9 occupied by 3 people who wouldn’t leave. Food was absolutely awful. Even the bottled soft drinks were somehow flat. Steak wasn’t cooked to anyone’s choosing, rare was medium, med... View all feedback.
Beautiful little steakhouse, not too expensive, my wife had tried to begin what she liked, I had the ribs that were quite dry and no soaking, we both had steaks, both very good for net, good cloby chips and tweeper rings, overall a good place to eat.
I have marked this review “surprise” as I was! we stayed on a culinary visit in edinburgh and enjoyed some good meals, but in the evening in the opposite around our hotel was a little firm. we had previously enjoyed the beautiful pizzeria next door, but when we arrived at our last edinburgh evening they were full, and so we hesitated to try ranchos steakhaus. now I must be careful as I line the next as I don't want to offend, but this first look of a steakhouse with just a few mozens inside, next to a busy pizzeria not good. our server was an enthusiastic gent, who welcomed us on the window table – smart move; looks good from the outside – what turned out to be a great choice for us. we ordered a lot of dressed, my a sirloin steak, medium rare and some wein. the wee almost completely consumed while we wait for our main – and we were not waiting long, was a delicious malbec and we ordered a second almost immediately. our meals were excellent; my own sirloin was boiled to perfection and I must say, probably one of the best I had eaten this year (ok, it's just earlyling time) and I was thrilled and surprised. this inconceivable, not overtrial (more customers came while we were there, I am happy to report) restaurant delivered me a really tasty teller with eating while my guests were equally satisfied with their own decisions. a happy last night to a great edinburgher break.
Don't be put off by the unpromising location; this is a meat eaters dream. All the different steaks we had were cooked beautifully, and the ribs were excellent. Needs to have a better choice of beer and it's a bit basic but if you want great steak go here
Starters around £3-5 each. Mains from £15 and steaks starting from £16 (plus sides and sauce, so they end up being £23-25minimum). The service was really good, the young guy was attentive, smiling and nothing was a problem. The starters were really nice, we had nachos and the chorizo sausages and we ordered rib eyes for main. The 12oz were cut well and seemed to be cooked well, however they didn't really taste of anything and this is where I felt it fell down. Even with the bernaisse sauce (which wasn't that great to be honest) it was still lacking flavour. We all like our steaks but I have had better. I'd give it the benefit of doubt as it's quite new, but they will need to do something to improve on them as there are places in Edinburgh that do them better. The house red wine was amazing though at £15 a bottle!
Amazing service and food. Best well cooked fillet I’ve had in a while. It had the best seasoning and was absolutely tender. Also baked potato with sour cream is great. 450 g of fillet is good enough for 2 people. Special thanks to Chiv and chef Tipu.
