Reviews - Square Rigger
Reviews summary
Under new ownership this island bistro is a polished, cozy favorite with attentive service, a lively bar, and standout seafood—grilled salmon, lobster bisque, rolls, scallops and mussels earn frequent praise—alongside reliable burgers, salads and steaks. Diners report excellent flavors and cleanliness, but menu and portions feel inconsistent: lobster choices have been reduced, sides can run out, and some entrées seem overpriced for their size. Reservations are online and phone contact is unreliable; overall a charming yet occasionally frustrating Vineyard spot.
Was Anonym at Square Rigger a mag?
I had a great lunch for two consecutive days, and I highly recommend this place. The chicken salad on spinach was delicious, the burgers were tasty, the fries were good, and the salad was fresh. View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Square Rigger:
Completely overpriced tourist trap. The food was well-cooked and flavorful, but the portions were very small. I ordered the surf and turf, and for $80, I received a tiny filet and the smallest lobster tail I've ever seen. I was shocked when I saw the bill. It was pricier than what you would find along the Atlantic, and it didn't come close to being as good. View all feedback.

This is an island Treasure!!! You can be casual and enjoy everything from the menu, the bar and the truly delightful staff. It’s under new ownership, and it’s spotless has been nicely spiffed up while retaining this “treasured spot” with same spirit islanders love. The mussels were FABULOUS all portions were plentiful and VERY reasonably priced!! Can have a wonderful cozy dinner and still have enough left to have dessert!!! ENJOY!!! Food: 5

The Square Rigger changed owners about two years ago. It used to be my favorite lobster restaurant on the Vineyard. I’m sorry to say it’s not as good as it used to be. Lobster is not even on the menu now! Luckily, they had a lobster special (baked stuffed) which was excellent but not as good as the grilled version which had previously been a regular on its former menu along with other lobster choices. There was no bread or other pre-meal munchies although one could order bread at an extra charge. The appetizers were expensive and sounded large so we didn’t order any. They don’t answer the phone. Reservations are only online so, in the future, I can’t ask if they would have a lobster special. Oh well. Although my meal was good, I expect I’ll now look elsewhere.
The food and service were excellent! The pan seared scallops and the salmon were delicious!

I went here twice in the span of 2 weeks for a fish sandwich. $14 the first time, $23 the second. That's just price gouging for the summer crowd. They lost my business.
We really miss the pre-Covid menu that featured a wide variety of seafood, especially the numerous lobster dishes. Visiting Square Rigger for a steamed lobster and a drink used to be one of our favorite outings. Additionally, the current prices are quite high.
Food was a little bit too salty for my liking. Pricy for the small serving of food. Drinks were awesome 5 stars but food wise a 3.

Not the Square Rigger I remember... I ordered the prime rib, but it came with no vegetables or sides at all. When I asked for a baked potato, they were out. The person who took my order was friendly and acknowledged that the kitchen was lacking. Overall, it was a disappointing experience for the price.
The meal and service were outstanding. The lobster bisque was light and not overly creamy, packed with generous pieces of tasty lobster. We shared a hot lobster roll and a steak sandwich, both of which were exceptional. The chimichurri on the steak sandwich makes it an ideal choice for lunch or dinner.
Exceptional! I give it a solid 5 stars. The ambiance is charming, with both the bar area and the dining section exuding character. Even though it was nearly closing time at 9:45, we received fantastic service, and the food was simply incredible! The scallops were delicious, and the lobster ravioli truly made my evening! Last year, I only experienced the carry-out option and didn’t realize there was a sit-down dining experience available. This meal was definitely one of my favorites during my time on the island this week. It's a must-try when you're here, and I can’t wait to return on my next visit!

The woman taking our order had a slight attitude. We had clam chowder and a couple grilled hotdogs. Food was good. There’s some picnic tables to sit and eat there. Chowder had good flavor and a good amount of clam. The grilled hotdogs were good. The toasted bun was really nice and we paid for additional toppings, one with onion and one with sauerkraut; they really give you a lot, which was great.
Classic fried seafood offers great value, especially on the island, and the service is lightning fast! While it's not gourmet, it's a reliable crowd-pleaser that we keep returning to. The chowder has a delicious flavor but is a bit too thin for my liking. The lobster rolls are beautiful and come loaded with fried goodies!
I had a fantastic hot dog! That's all I ordered, and I truly enjoyed it. The service was great, too!
