We dined there on August 5, 2023, around 1:30 PM. Wow, this is hands down the best BBQ I’ve ever tasted! We ordered the pork, ribs, green beans, and pickled cucumber salad, and everything was fantastic. I have to give a special mention to the pork, which had no fat at all—a huge plus for me! I can't wait to try all the other meats and sides, as it seems you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Although we live 2... View all feedback.
What Don Richards doesn't like about Old Colony Smokehouse:
Over priced. Brisket sandwitch was like broken up roast beef with neutral taste. Pulled pork sandwich had neutral taste as well and it would have been nice to know that it was loaded with hot spice before ordering for my wife who cannot take spice. Maybe I should have asked more questions before ordering. Three times over the last years I have been disappointed. This was the last. View all feedback.
The green beans tasted like they came straight from a can and lacked any flavor, and the potato salad had no seasoning at all. The ribs were tiny, and my wife’s turkey sandwich consisted of a small piece of turkey on a cheap white bun for $6. Prices for everything were 20-30% higher than they should be for the portion sizes. When we ordered a kids' slider, the woman serving the meat initially piled it on, only to take most of it back off. I had a decent sandwich priced at $11, but it didn't come with a side, which should be expected at that price. Overall, we spent $50 before tip and didn't even get drinks. That included two weak ribs, my good sandwich, my wife’s unimpressive turkey sandwich, two kids’ meals, and a small pint of potato salad. Everyone in our group still left hungry. If the food had been excellent, I wouldn't have minded paying more, but it was just mediocre and overpriced for what we received. It won't ruin my birthday, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place. I also read the manager’s take on my review and wanted to offer some clarifications. She was indeed friendly, but she was the only one; when we were deciding what to order—a normal procedure for first-time visitors—she came by to offer us another table but didn’t ask how our meal was or check in multiple times. I travel extensively across America, and I found your comment about living under a rock to be offensive. If your green beans aren't from a can, my apologies, but they certainly lacked flavor. The prices are simply too high; I’ve been to many places offering larger portions of delicious food for less. And since you have a line in the morning, don't worry about my thoughts.
10 stars! This restaurant was definitely worth the hour-long drive. Oh my goodness! It’s the best BBQ and brisket I’ve ever had. Now I understand why they often sell out. Trust me, it’s worth every penny and mile. We met the owners in our town and promised them we would come to visit, and now they feel like family to us! We'll be back time and time again.
My husband and I love spending our lunch dates at OCS! They have the best barbecue around!!! Sides are fresh and so much variety!! Especially their pickled sides!! Owners and staff are amazing and friendly people! Always delightful desserts especially the personalized side ones! Please don?t miss this spot! Edenton, NC??
I visited Old Colony Smokehouse with a coworker and was absolutely amazed by the flavor and quality of the food. Normally, I don't finish my meals, but this time there was nothing left on my plate. The BBQ was a delightful journey, with flavors that transitioned from smoky to sweet, and then to spicy, leaving me craving more. The meat was incredibly tender, the bun was perfectly crisp, and the sauce tied everything together beautifully. The sweet potato casserole could easily double as dessert. It was rich and flavorful, with chunky bits and a creamy texture that made me want to eat it with two forks. The banana pudding was just right—not too sweet, with the perfect balance of bananas and wafers. The meal was so good that I nearly forgot where I was; I didn't want the experience to end. I would definitely consider driving a few hours just to enjoy a meal at Old Colony Smokehouse again.
Best brisket I have ever had in my life. We are from Raleigh originally, live in Asheville, and have travelled extensively up and down the coast of NC SC, eating at as many local BBQ joints as we can along the way. This is some of the most delicious BBQ I?ve ever tried. The brisket is tender, smoky, and incredibly flavorful with a perfectly crunchy bark. The pulled pork was also top notch. Both are excellent without sauce, but their sauces are awesome too! Green beans and Mac n Cheese delicious as well. Show up early and watch them slice up your brisket before your eyes. Will be back again and again!!!
