Contribute FeedbackNestled in a picturesque area, this inviting pub offers a delightful escape for both locals and tourists alike. With a warm atmosphere and friendly owners, it promises a charming experience, whether you're seeking a hearty meal or a cozy spot to enjoy a drink by the fire. While the menu features a variety of homemade dishes, including well-received Sunday roasts on occasion, the food has garnered mixed reviews, with some standout items like pizzas and fresh fish and chips stealing the show. Ultimately, the pub is a hidden gem worthy of a visit, especially for those embarking on nearby walks.
While visiting the in laws in Appleby we decided to give this pub a visit on New Year’s Eve . I have to say we weren’t disappointed . Having only been in once before on Boxing Day for a quick couple of pints I knew it was going to be fine . When we walked in it was like walking in to my own local so warm was the welcome from staff and locals alike A fantastic community pub in the middle of a fantastic community . We will definitely treating this as our local when we are up here again and I suggest who ever reads this does the same
We had a fantastic experience at this warm and inviting pub. The food was delicious, and they had a great selection of local ales. The owner, Phil, made us feel right at home and took great care of us. I loved sitting by the fireplace and warming up. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
I want to provide some feedback in this review. The pub is located in a beautiful area and there are many tourist signs that direct you to it. The pub has a lot of potential and it is clear that the new owner is enthusiastic. He was very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, we were the only customers on a Sunday afternoon. We were looking forward to a traditional Sunday roast, but were disappointed to learn that it is only served occasionally. The menu seemed fine for a pub and promised homemade dishes. I won't go into detail about the food, but it did not meet our expectations. I wish the new owners the best of luck and I truly hope they can make the business a success.
Visited for the first time today. Fantastic food (one of the best pizzas we have ever had) great service, lovely atmosphere, pleasant location, good prices. Will certainly be back. Thankyou.
Four of us stopped by this restaurant for lunch to take shelter from the rain while walking the final stretch of the Dales High Way. Great Asby is located halfway between Newbiggin and Appleby. We received a warm welcome from the new owners and enjoyed delicious meals including vegetable curry, meat lasagne, vegetarian lasagne, and scampi. The beer was also top-notch. Highly recommend this place!
