We had fish and chips twice from here during our stay and both times they were excellent the size of the standard fish is excellent and delicious with it, so fresh and tasty. The staff are very friendly. One tip if possible they do like you to ring and order ahead at this time. View all feedback.
What Paul Macfarlane doesn't like about The High Plaice:
Tried on two occasions to phone to place an order (as we had heard good things) first time, was two mins to 7pm, turns out they closed at 7pm and everything was shut down. Second time, line was constantly engaged. When we drove down, they had closed at 6pm. Disappointing. View all feedback.
The best!!! beautiful fish and chips in gray paper something wonderful. everything smells! fresh!!! the price is sufficient for the quality and size of the part. I have eaten at different places, but here I understand why the English people love it. gordon ramsay go to try it!
Large fish chips fresh made to order was not disposed cooked to perfection, large tasting good customer service.
Perfect fish and chips, good value for money and an ideal pair of benches outside to enjoy eating
The best gluten-free fish and chips we ever had. three of us (all gluten intolerant) were migrated all day on the pennine way and tied a bit fast and easy to refuel. we had heard that the high plaice fish and chips made and so arranged to check which days they were available (most of the fairies do just gf on certain days). we were pleased to hear that the high plaice every day does that they are open, they only need 30 minutes notice to heat the gf friyer. So, three portions fish and a big chips, with gf curry sauce and oh my word, just amazing! the fish was the size of a small wals, the teig amazingly light and crispy (again, unusual for gf, which often soggy and thick) and the chips freshly roasted, hot and salty curry sauce packed a stamp and so delicious. everything just so good to eat, and the staff did not seem to be fazed by my muddy pants, flushed complexion (I had just done 12 miles in the sun) or the spring I had stuck in my hair some time earlier in the day and had forgotten. really great eating and beautiful service, would highly recommend.
