What Maya Emard doesn't like about Red Chilli szechuan chinese restaurant:
chinese food with lots of oil, salt and sugar, huge servings but not much else.Large servings doesn't compensate for the food quality. Also check you bill as we were over charged, and not comment or apology provided. Not worth a visit given many other good chinese restaurants in Vic Park. This restaurant is not for the Bogans looking for Australianised Cantonese Chinese. This is authentic Szechuan cruise. The meal was delicious, way more that we could eat in one sitting. Dinner was sorted with the leftovers. A restaurant for the more adventurous. We will go back.
Two friends and I had a craving for Chinese food on a public holiday, and this was one of the few places open so we wandered on in. It was a bit more than our (uni student) budget could afford so we decided just to order some entree/side dishes. Pork buns: dry and tastelessShallot pancake: Disgustingly oily, minimal shallotsVegetarian Spinach-dumpling thing: Tasteless and frozen on the inside, burning on the outside, tasteless, exactly as if they had grabbed it out of the freezer and chucked it in the deep frier for a few minutes. Also the service was poor; they didn't bring us a dish we asked for and then told us we hadn't ordered it. Really nice decor though.
Not sure if my problem solving skills have left me since I had a baby (they say you lose brain cells) but we walked into Red Chilli Szechuan Chinese Restaurant in Vic Park and asked for a table for 3 adults and a baby and was pointed to a tiny table for 2, then we repeated again and was pointed to the table next to it which was the same size but with an extra chair as it was against the wall and I said we need a space for the baby and was told they don't have high chairs which is fine because I have a booster seat bag so I said I need four chairs can you put the two 2 person tables together and was told they can't and we can sit on the original 2 person table that we were shown to...what the?!? We said don't worry about it and left - as I turned around to walk out I saw a stack of high chairs against the wall...so am I the one with the problem here??? Now I really need to be positive - the guy that spoke to us was polite. There.
This place definitely gets busy for most dinners and there is a reason why - its pretty good sichuan food. The fish dish is amazing (the one in soup and chilli), green beans. The only one dish i thought could have improved was the lamb ribs were a bit fatty for my liking. Great place to get your sichuan fix.
