What Sandy Ore doesn't like about Great Burger Kitchen:
I recently ordered the BBQ chicken poutine. It was a disappointing attempt at poutine. The breaded chicken chunks were barely distinguishable from the fries, there was no traditional poutine cheese, only cheddar. There was hardly any gravy or BBQ sauce. It seemed like very little effort was put into making it actually resemble poutine. I am very hungry, but I am considering throwing it away and finding something else... View all feedback.
Great, I mean GREAT Burger. A superb shake, delicious onion rings, yummy fries. Food arrived quickly and hot. What a treat.
First, prepare to wait. It takes about 20 minutes to fill a very basic burger combo order. Now, if the food were high quality then that would be a fair trade-off. Today, at lunch, I ordered the voodoo burger combo with onion rings. After the usual interminable wait my tiny burger which certainly didn't taste as if it came with spicy mustard arrived (though the other condiments were pretty good.) The onion rings might have been the worst I have ever had. I don't even think there was any onion in the mass of fried batter. And these rings sans onions cost $4.95 The ginger ale was good though. If you want a burger you'd be better off going anywhere else, even Burger King or McDonalds. I'm sure the onion rings more closely resemble rings with some onion in them elsewhere. And, no, I'm not one of those people who likes to slag businesses because I find it cathartic. In fact, I used to like GBK. However, the last two experiences have been terrible.
Just Eats take out, amazing, filling burgers, better than homemade. Awesome onion rings and poutine.
This is my go-to joint when I'm in the mood for a really good burger and fries. The burgers are piled high with toppings, which makes them a bit messy, but if you have napkins on hand it's manageable. There's an excellent selection of toppings as well as specialty burgers. If you want to keep things simple, you can't go wrong with the Classic burger. The fries are hand-cut, double cooked and amazing. They're also a good length for dipping in ketchup, which is more than I can say about one of their competitors, whose fries are about two inches long. I've tried several gourmet burger places in the Danforth/Leslieville/Beaches area and this is by far my favourite. Seating is limited, and I'd avoid sitting in the window on a hot, sunny day unless you've got sunglasses and you're wearing a tee-shirt. It gets very warm, though you can't fault the restaurant. The landlord should update the picture window to a more modern piece of glass. (Hint, hint)! The counter staff are friendly and helpful, too.
