Have never had bad food or poor service. Small town diner feel to it. We get the breakfast buffet most frequently. Competitively priced. The decor and layout is the reason for the reduction in stars. I have no clue what this building use to be, but it doesn 't appear to be a restaurant, very mixed matched...could use some modern updates but, in the end, your there to ear right? The decor doesn 't stop me from coming... View all feedback.
What Serenity Reinger doesn't like about Bear Mountain Grill:
Alert: Under new ownership! NOT GOOD! 12/28/19 at 11am Wow! It was shocking how bad this place was. The new ownership has ruined Bear Mountain Grill. The buffet was the most disgusting buffet I have seen. The food was sparse and had been sitting for a long time. There were more empty tables than the were tables with people sitting at them. Anyone who knows Bear Mountain Grill the way it used to be knows what I am tal... View all feedback.
UNFORTUNATELY THIS PLACE HAS CLOSED, ANOTHER BUSINESS WILL OPEN IN THE SAME LOCATION,TAKING THE SAME NAME THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNERS SPENT YEARS BUILDING A SOLID AND UNBEATABLE REPUTATION AROUND. THE FORMER OWNERS (AND REPUTATION) CAN BE FOUND AT LEXI 'S CAFE NOT TOO FAR AWAY! I just want to share that with anyone thinking of going to the new place, so you know that this new business is not the same, as illustrated in their blatantly dishonorable actions. With that being said, Bear Mountain Grill WAS a fantastic restaurant that treated their customers like family, you could walk in there after several months from your last visit and they would remember your name or ask about something that you shared there. The quality was consistent, the service was impeccable, the recipes were original, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I cannot wait for them to carry their genuinely Alaskan charm to Lexi 's Cafe! I guarantee you will not be disappointed with their new location. I make no guarantees about having a decent visit in the New Bear Mountain Grill. If it turns out anything like their shady, and dishonest actions in acquiring the business...it will be a distasteful disgrace. I 'd give them 1 star on their blatant lack of morals alone.
Stop #3 on my breakfast tour. (See my reviews of Bobby's and Flo for my first two stops. City Diner as the fourth). I admit, I have a meal. I wish I could say that my breakfast choices are sporadic and I want to try unique and different meals, but I really just want: Bacon Over Medium Eggs Hash browns/home fries Gravy and biscuits Black coffee As for my list, they provided a meal that hit all the components. It was a solid, decent breakfast. It filled me up. The bacon wasn't small, but not as big as Bobby's. The gravy wasn't (in my humble opinion) scratch kitchen gravy. But it was tasty and they don't just pour the gravy over the biscuit. They actually split the biscuit in half, pour gravy between and then put it back together. My wife had the veggies skillet. It was HUGE. Probably could feed two people. And it came with toast. It had all sorts of delicious veggies though it felt like it had a bit too much hash browns in the ratio. Coffee came with a full pot and two types of creamer. Service was a little slow but the place was packed.
The Bear Mountain Grill sits off the main road through Eagle River and you will not see it unless you look carefully. It is behind VCA ANIMAL-HOSPITAL about 150 yards off Eagle River road. There is a sign by the road but when you look you may miss it. They have a large free parking lot. The service is excellent with both the breakfast buffet and the ability to order from the menu. The buffet line food is kept hot and replenished often so it is fresh. The food is well prepared and tasty. The prices are reasonable. The buffet is all you can eat and comes with coffee and drinks (non-alcoholic). They do have an alcohol license so you can order other drinks. I have ordered off the menu and found those meals to be high quality and large. This is an excellent place to eat in Eagle River.
Been meaning to try this place a while but it's not that easy to see from the Old Glenn. Happened upon it and decided to give her a try. When you enter you'll notice it was something else once upon a time, but makes a good dining area. A large dining area with buffet and kitchen at front. A little dated but nothing horrible. The staff seated us fairly quick and was over to take our drink order before we were settled. I settled on the buscuits and gravy with home fries. The gravy was a creamy gravy with sausage in it. The biscuits a little old, probably day old. Not bad overall taste. The home fries are the frozen kind and not fresh cut which seems to be the norm for AK. The staff were all nice and attentive. Not a bad spot to grab breakfast. For me the jury is still out, I give 3 stars for now.
Eggs and sausage links were merely ok but like a Google reviewer from yesterday stated, the food is just left to sit out and not rotated for freshness, which is crucial for a buffet. I hadn't eaten here since October 2018; the horribly greasy food, lack of buffet options, and aforementioned lack of quality control ensures I won't be back. Other reviewers are spot-on; this place has done a 180 degree turn since it's changed ownership, and not for the better.
