This is one of the best restaurants in Durham, and is my favorite restaurant in Durham. I have yet to be disappointed by a menu item, and I’ve almost tried them all. The olive tapenade with bread is a fabulous starter, as is the chicken liver pâté, French onion soup, and mussels (any way you order them). In addition, their raw bar/oyster selection make for the perfect pre-appetizer snack, especially when paired with a cocktail. Don’t expect an extensive cocktail list here, by the way, but their riffs on old time classics pair excellently with their menu, and they have something for everyone. Where they really shine on the drink front is their extensive French wine selection. As for entrées, you can’t go wrong, and I’m frequently torn on my decision when I go. My best advice is if they have a special that sounds appetizing, go for that. Their specials are truly a unique item, as I haven’t seen the same one twice in the 7-8 times I’ve gone this past year. I was really pleased I finally chose to have dinner at Vin Rogue. Our server, Jason, was fantastic and gave us some excellent recommendations. We ordered appetizers, main courses, and dessert. The escargot and sweetbreads were both bursting with flavor, making for a wonderful start to the meal. For our main courses, we had the chicken with tarragon and Dijon sauce, and the fish of the day, which was seared scallops Provençal. Both dishes were fresh and incredibly flavorful. The chicken was juicy, and the scallops were cooked perfectly—not tough like in some other places. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience, and we were thrilled to cap it off with some delicious chocolate mousse. I’m already looking forward to my next meal here!

Excellent service and food. We tried the daily special seared scallops which were frankly the best I've had. The escargot were pleasant but I wish they were saltier. Mussels buttery and delicious. Trout Amandine tender and great, hanger steak cooked as specified and was a joy to eat. The pork chop was fairly good. Definitely a great place to go for a semi-splurge meal.
