Mavericks Smokehouse And Taproom

Terrible. Zero organization or management. After being seated we waited for 20 minutes while multiple wait staff asked us if we had been taken care of. Finally got a waiter. Ordered and were told food was running behind and it would be 20 minutes or so. 20 minutes went by and we asked if our drinks were coming. Were told that drinks were tied to the food order. Made no sense. Another 20 minutes go by and we asked where our food was. Told it would be another 10-20 minutes. Asked for the bill for the drinks as we were not going to wait that much longer. The waiter went away and appeared 2 minutes later with the food. And it was cold. Stay away.

Nothing about this place was stellar, I 'll be honest. We arrived and gave them our name and they said uh we don 't see the reservation but we 'll seat you but they didn 't even seem to look. Then they said with a broad wave of a hand you can have that table as they swept past 4 empty tables a few feet away. So we just sat down at one and they looked over and seemed confused oh you want that table ok. What?? Our waiter was ok, the food was ok, but we weren 't overly impressed. The food did come out quickly, and I 'll give a plug for the Okra that it was delicious and perfectly salted, and the pork bbq was good. I felt like the mac and cheese and particularly the bun of my sandwich could 've been alot better. We happened to leave something there when we left, I called multiple times to see if I could come and pick it up, but each time I called I was told oh your waiter already left so call tomorrow , oh i was your waiter we don 't have it , no one that was working at that time is here call back later , and then without hesitation nope we don 't have it . Very frustrating that they don 't have a place where they put things that are left, and that it took me almost 24 hours of calling to get so many different answers. The actual meat was good, the other food was fine, but the general lack of customer service was disappointing.

Great for a first date. There were a few other restaurants in the area however, the reviews for Mavericks gave me confidence to set an appointment. Awesome experience!

Excellent new spot in Durham. Very convenient for a pre-concert or show meal and easy access to DPAC. Excellent local beer selection that matches well with the barbecue.
