The restaurant is very inviting and conveniently located near our Portobello motel. We really enjoyed this place, which had the character we were looking for close to Dunedin. We appreciated the restaurant's secluded atmosphere and found the dinner menu to be limited yet well-curated. The reception and service were excellent. We chose a New Zealand Chardonnay and can highly recommend the seafood chowder and lamb shank. We almost consider 1908 Cafe to be a hidden gem.
In my opinion, it's more of a charming restaurant with a cozy, old-world atmosphere than a cafe. The food is delicious, making it a great spot for a date.
