What Joy M doesn't like about Dunbogan General & Liquor Store:
We have eaten here before and were very happy but the food we got today was very disappointing. The scallops were so greasy they were dripping and we ordered a cheese burger with raw onion and all we got was a patty and cheese in a bun with no onion raw and no salad. The bun was very dry and was really quite inedible. We enjoy a drive to Dunbogan and have often got food here but never again. View all feedback.
The coffee, food, and view at this restaurant are all excellent.
One major issue is the lack of service and small serving sizes. A recent review on TripAdvisor in December 2020 mentioned burnt crumbed fish, which was not the fault of the current owners. The fish we received was half the size and thickness advertised, priced at $8.95, and was too dry to eat. Normally, one piece of fish and a small portion of chips would be enough for two people, but this time it only satisfied one person. When we ordered, the staff did not show us the size of the fish; they simply pointed to a cardboard takeaway box on the counter. Despite asking three times, we were rejected. A recent review on TripAdvisor in January 2023 showed someone placing their car keys on the lid of their small chips - the same size we received - with the fish on top, emphasizing the small portion size. Additionally, we were shortchanged on our order, missing an item we had paid for. For $22.10, we received one fish, one small portion of chips, one smaller than normal crab stick, and four calamari rings - poor value for money. Returning to the original serving sizes would help the business succeed in the long term.
I recently tried the Lot Burger at this restaurant and it was absolutely delicious. It was juicy, filling, and a great value. I highly recommend it and can't wait to try more items from the menu.
I ordered a small chips with chicken salt, was charged $5 and I counted 37 chips, including the tiny ones; potatoes have gone up!
The new owners have done a fabulous job on completely refurbishing these premises both inside and out and are to be congratulated. The quality of their fish and quantity of serving is poor. I used to be a regular at this place with the former owners and traditionally it had been great quality and generous servings for the money, however, over the past couple of years both the quality, cleanliness and service deteriorated. The new owners have done an absolute gem of a job in refurbishing from top to bottom. Their product offering and quality quantity of serving badly lets the place down. When I was last there, they couldn't process payment of my order as another person was processing an order. I don't know whether they only have one electronic payment point or not certainly need one. It was obvious the new staff had not been properly trained and inducted (and it is great to see local young people employed) but they need to be skilled. I genuinely wish this business well and can lift its game in the areas described to match the investment they have made in the building, shop redesign and modern fit out.
