Description

Dublin's vibrant vegan scene offers diners a delightful mix of experiences. At Vegan Sandwich Company, patrons rave about flavorful options, from falafel wraps to avocado toast, in a cozy atmosphere with welcoming staff. Conversely, the fried offerings can fall flat—some diners find the fish substitutes soggy and the flavor bland. Over at Pretend, the indulgent vegan fast food delights, although some dishes are criticized for being greasy. Desserts like snickers toffee crème shine, while the lack of seating may deter those seeking a sit-down experience. Overall, both spots promise a unique but varied culinary journey.

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. I enjoyed a delicious vegan "steak" sandwich with pickles, coleslaw, mustard, lettuce, and tomato. It was made in the proper New York City deli style, filled generously and fried perfectly on the outside. The staff was very friendly and I also purchased my vegan Christmas "turkey", "honey" glazed "ham", and peppercorn gravy to try later. I can't wait to sample the rest of the menu - these vegan dishes are sure to please anyone with taste buds!

My husband is a big fan of vegan fast food, so we had to try Pretend while we were in Dublin, especially since it was close to our hotel. During our first two visits, we tried the steak sandwich, the loaded BBQ fries, and the loaded chive and garlic aioli fries. While the flavors were good, we found everything to be too greasy, heavy, and difficult to eat. However, we couldn't resist trying the desserts, so we got the snickers toffee creme and the baileys almond Guinness cake a couple of days later. Both desserts were delicious, albeit very rich and dense. They were stored in a large freezer and could be heated up for you, but we chose to take them back to our hotel room frozen and enjoyed them a few hours later. The service was friendly, but there is no seating available, so you have to stand and wait while your food is prepared, which can be a bit awkward and time-consuming. If you're a fan of this type of food, then Pretend is the place for you, but for those who prefer lighter options, you may want to just stick to the desserts. Overall, our experience in October 2022 was mixed but enjoyable.

I really liked the Salad with tofu steaks and vegan bacon, there are plenty of options and you can create your salads … burgers and sandwiches are very nice… I went there with my non vegan friend Federico and he also liked. The cappuccino was very good. I’ll give Extra few point to this shop because everything is 100% recyclable… and sustainable. I will go there often

We had the masala chips which were delicious and took away a snickers cake pot which was amazing , very creamy and fresh loads of flavour Choices and ice-cream available) We ate a fish burger in there and whilst it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t very fishy at all and was a bit too moist. We did actually get a brownie too to take away but haven’t eaten this yet! A few high stools inside and a few tables outside but the road was a bit noisy!
