Donut Star - Draper
Donut Star
Description
Donut Star offers an abundant, affordable selection of classic and inventive pastries — light, fluffy cake donuts, enormous fritters and specialty cronuts — alongside coffee, bagels, danishes and breakfast sandwiches. A cute shop with roomy seating, friendly staff and late hours makes it a favorite for families, office orders and weekend mornings. Quality can be uneven at times (some items dry or bland) and early-morning or breakfast-stock availability sometimes varies, but variety, value and standout fritters keep customers coming back.

This is our favorite donut shop in Salt Lake County! Hands down THE MOST DELICIOUS donuts you'll ever eat. The staff is always super friendly too which makes visiting THAT much better! I can't say enough good things about Donut Star. They sell t-shirts (imcluding a pretty pink color) and merchandise too. You can eat inside as there's a pretty good-sized dining/ sit-down area. They serve lots of different breakfast sandwiches and coffee drinks. Very kid friendly. They stay open late every day and are even open Sundays. We go late Sunday afternoons a lot and they typically have a full selection of donuts even in the afternoons. I highly recommend this donut shop!
The doughnuts are very reasonably priced and super tasty. The line went real quick. The cashier was very helpful and polite. Sadly, I cannot comment on how good their breakfast sandwiches are because they ran out of eggs while we were there.
Unfortunately, at Donut Star, the dough, regardless of the type, lacks distinctiveness and tastes like standard fried dough. I was particularly excited to try their Red Velvet Donut, thinking it would be delicious. While it did have the perfect red hue, the flavor was rather vague. Topped with a very sweet frosting and chocolate drizzle, it mostly tasted of fryer oil and sugar. I had hoped for a richer chocolate taste and a cream cheese frosting that would be more reminiscent of a traditional Red Velvet cake. That said, I must commend the texture of the donuts, especially the cake ones; they are wonderfully light and fluffy with a great crumb. Many times, donuts can be excessively dense. The highlight of my visit, however, were the fritters. Seriously, they are gigantic—about the size of my face! They come in strawberry and apple flavors, both of which are incredibly delicious. The fritters are moist on the inside, crisp on the outside, and lightly glazed. If you're ever in doubt, just go for the massive fritter. A dozen donuts costs about $21, which I think is pretty reasonable. I’ve always enjoyed Donut Star, but with so many donut shops available now, each one has to elevate their offerings to stand out. If a donut is merely decent, people will likely seek out better options. Next time, I’m definitely getting more fritters, and I plan to try some of their Cronuts, bagels, and Danishes too.
Unlike other donut shops where you have to hurry to get there before 9 AM or risk missing out on donuts, this place is fully stocked with every type of donut you can imagine. My personal favorite is the apple fritter, and they always get it right—plus, it's enormous! The cronuts, Boston creams, and maple bars are also top choices for me.
