King Wok is a classic and traditional restaurant that stands out with its old-school charm. This type of restaurant is becoming increasingly rare to find. While primarily catering to takeout orders, they offer a variety of classic Chinese dishes served in generous portions that are both tasty and affordable. The service is quick and efficient. What Greg W doesn't like about Atm (kings Douglaston):
NOW CALLED GREAT WOK 2.5 stars. I believe this spot has changed owners. Everything here used to be really solid. I ordered fried cheese wontons. Very good Egg roll.... Good Boneless spare ribs w. Brown rice. The brown rice texture was very mushy and the flavor was off. The ribs were ok. Def. Not the same as old owners. The rice was really bad. Chinese restaurant bad rice. Very disappointing!! Service is miserable. Owner selectively says thank you to some people, makes faces, is rude and acts like he is doing you a favor. I have been a customer for many years only because the food is really good. However, the bad attitude and disrespect is a major turn off. Perhaps if the owners tried a little harder to be nice to customers, they would have a better business. No one wants to see a scowling face when they come to a restaurant.
I used to go to this place years back. I always thought the food was good, but I stopped going because they didn't accept credit cards, only cash. I decided to give it another try. The good news is that they accept credit cards now. The food this night was disappointing, however; not bad, but not what I remember as having been really good Chinese take out. The steamed dumplings were doughy never had ones like these. The boneless ribs were an odd cut, a bit tough, and had little of the fatty grease that makes boneless ribs so so good. The General Tzo's Chicken wasn't what I remembered either. The sauce was dark and not very spicy. Usually the sauce for this dish has a more orangey flavor. The chicken was thickly breaded and a bit tough, as well. Finally, they only included 2 3 small broccoli florets in this dish I expected more. I think they must have changed recipes or changed the chef from years back (see photos of dishes ordered). So the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to run and tell family and friends about meh.
I ordered food from here for the first time and when I got it my drink had exploded! The bag was a mess and therefore my food that I ordered was also a mess. The food was standard and edible but I was so disappointed that my drink was a goner.... I would reconsider ordering delivery from this place...
In the mood for fast Chinese food? This is NOT the place. Small family owned and pretty much operated by two nasty grown sons. Food quality is awful. Quality started to deteriorate before the pandemic and continues to date. During the pandemic they posted signs in the store: must wear a mask. Guess who was NOT wearing a mask??? The owners and cooking staff did not wear masks.I asked one of the owners why he and employees were not complying with the mandatory mask rule. His reply.... come on. you know me for years . Really??? I told him I was not taking the food I had ordered and walked out. Unfortunately, his comment spoke volumes. So, after many, many, many months I decided to try it again. My mistake.Tonight I ordered roast pork with Chinese vegetables (combo). If you like your combo platter to consist of approximately 90% fried rice, and feel like you are doing them a favor, then this is the place for you.
