Mash Marrow - Des Moines
Mash Marrow
Description
Nestled within a hotel lobby, the restaurant at DSM has garnered a range of feedback from patrons. While some enjoy late-night comfort food, others find the ambiance lacks warmth and the portions uninspiring. Service is often highlighted positively, with staff addressing issues swiftly; for instance, an undercooked steak was promptly replaced, and desserts were generously comped. However, the overall sentiment indicates that, despite visual appeal, the flavors can be underwhelming and the prices steep. For those seeking an upscale dining experience, this may not quite hit the mark, but it serves well for quick, casual bites.

This is the most disappointing restaurant experience I've ever had in a Marriott hotel. The food was incredibly bland. I ordered the butternut squash soup of the day along with a salad, but instead received a salad without dressing and the incorrect soup. The servers lacked proper restaurant etiquette; you have to request a menu instead of them bringing one to you. They rudely interrupted me while I was ordering and still managed to mix up the food when serving it. I noticed them chatting in a corner, completely ignoring the guests at their tables. Additionally, the wait for food was excessively long; it took 30 minutes just for my soup and salad to arrive. Honestly, you're better off using Uber Eats than dining at this restaurant.
The service and staff were excellent. The Caesar salad was decent, giving it a solid score of 3—edible, but not particularly memorable. The atmosphere resembles that of a hotel lobby, which makes sense since that's essentially where the seating is located.
I wish I had realized that this place was more of a hotel lobby providing food rather than a traditional restaurant. It was probably my fault for not researching more beforehand. Nevertheless, while the presentation of the food was attractive, it fell short in terms of flavor. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially considering the high prices.
We had a wonderful experience with our waiter, who delivered excellent service and didn't rush us at all. Overall, the food was good, but we did encounter one issue: the medium steak we ordered was seared on the outside but undercooked in the center. Fortunately, the staff handled the situation promptly and even treated us to our dessert, which was a delicious s'mores tart.
