What suedH5598PC doesn't like about The Flying Childers:
The staff were excellent and very attentive. The crockery was stunning. However £40 a head is well over priced. One of the canopies was bland egg mayo on a tiny oat cake. The sandwiches were on very thick bread and quite tasteless. The scones were... View all feedback.
I have lived in Derbyshire all my life and of course, this is a case of ‘what’s on your doorstep’ you hardly ever consider! My friend arranged for myself and another friend to meet up and discuss all things countryside and veer onto other topics, at a rate of 19 to the dozen as you do when you have not met up for a while. Walking into this little place was like stepping into a storybook … it has an astonishing atmosphere I felt I was walking into somewhere I’d been before and it was so wonderful and cozy. We ate … the food was gorgeous and I don’t know who has put four signs at the top, but I can tell you, it’s not expensive whatsoever. I had a lovely posh toastie, with goat’s cheese, sweet pepper, rocket and tomato chutney and it was delicious … certainly filled a gap (was quite tempered with pudding). What was so nice was the fact that the area we were in was really snug and you had no choice but to say ‘Hello’ to those around you … so if you’re a miserable sod, this isn’t the place for you. I blummin loved it and will definitely go again!
This is a wonderful pub. Lovely food and a nice roaring fire. The perfect stop off on our walk. Great selection of beers. I’m just gutted we couldn’t stay longer! A must visit
This is an absolutely gorgeous pub. Small, unspoilt, award winning for its unspoiled qualities. There was a roaring log fire when we visited, the landlord was friendly and attentive. Great beer and food was simple but definitely creative. We realised on arrival that we’d visited before, a few years ago. I would urge folks to make a special effort to visit.
We go out as group once a fortnight and have visited several pubs in the area for lunch. Everything we ordered was delicious and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend the Childers. The best pub food of all the places we’ve visited. Will definitely return.
