While many praised the warm hospitality from certain staff members and the inviting atmosphere enhanced by a wood burner, others found some service to lack friendliness. The menu, though limited, features well-prepared dishes like steak and ale pie, appreciated for its taste and generous portions. However, the dining area can feel cramped, and outside noise may disrupt the experience. Overall, diners left with mixed feelings, recommending the pub for its comfort but expressing a desire for a more vibrant dining atmosphere.
I organized a family meal for a special occasion at this restaurant. The bar staff was friendly, but the landlady could use a smile and was sometimes rude. The food quality was acceptable and the service was quick. The menu options were limited, but overall we had a pleasant evening.
We have visited this location multiple times over the past few years, and have always had a positive experience. I have even stayed here alone with my dog and felt very comfortable. The site is conveniently located and the facilities are good. The pub on-site offers delicious food and drinks, and we appreciated the leaflet of local walks they provided. During our stay on a Sunday night, we were surprised to find out that the pub closes at 7, but the owner was extremely helpful and still sold us a bottle of wine to enjoy back at our van. We were also able to request a specific pitch and our request was accommodated. We plan to return to this site several times next year.
My family and I went to this restaurant for a delicious meal. The food was excellent, especially the desserts. The staff was friendly and we had a great time. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Me and my Mrs were staying at a local camp site in our motorhome so chose the Duke of York as it was pithing easy walking distance. We arrived at the Pub and was shown to a side room which they were using for dining....The room had other couples in but lacked any real atmosphere, not our choice as we like quaint bars etc but we ordered our food and drinks. The service was excellent and the food was superb. The home made steak and Ale pie was superb with rich gravy obviously made from stock etc. We would have no issues with recommending this venue but would be better eating in the bar area.
During a visit to buxton we decided to dive for a family dinner on the cold, humid, nebulous December night. last day I called the duke of york to book the table and confirm the opening times. when entering the restaurant there was a warm reception in an irradiated dining room with enclosed wood burner that provided a nice warmth. tische put meters apart for social distancing. the service was friendly and competent via menu points with information about local content and suppliers. the meal was served in a timely manner and allowed a cozy culinary experience. the food was well presented, hot and tasty. a very pleasant experience. I would recommend the duke of york for a meal for anyone looking for a family dinner.
