The Devonshire Arms At Beeley

Long wait, poor service, alright food.......... Four of us arrived without a reservation, at about on Bank Holiday Monday. The place was busy, but not full. We were added to the waiting list along with two other groups of two and three. No one though to offer us menus to get our order going, no one though to ask if we wanted to order drinks, and no one thought that it might be a good idea to offers some h'orderves; so after a good hours wait for our table, we were famished. This was our first opportunity to peruse the menu, and to be honest if we had seen it earlier we may have left to find our lunch elsewhere. Not much of a variety, and not much on offer if you have special dietary requirements. The staff had little understanding of coeliac which is always disappointing. That said, when our meals arrived, the food was alright but only alright. Id struggle to go to the bother of driving out to the Devonshire again.

Mr Howell. We stayed here in september had a lovely time. Room was very clean and the bed was very comfy, nice friendly staff and good food would recommend this hotel

So looking forward to this meal after a fantastic walk! I hadn’t read the reviews prior to our visit last night but totally agree unfortunately with the negative ones with reference to the limited menu small portions of underwhelming, unseasoned, overpriced food, I felt...I needed a bag of chips on the way home! I assume these reviews are read by the chef management but sadly not responded to as these similar criticisms have been very consistently made. We were also barked at (no pun intended) that they weren’t aware we had dogs, which wasn’t an issue as we left them in the car, but we also didn’t realise we had booked into the restaurant rather than the pub, as not too clear on the website as options… All that said the waitresses serving us were lovely but sadly we will only be stopping for a drink next time.

After reading previous reviews I was a bit worried that the portions might very small and low quality However the portions where not small, quality was good and price was about average . We went as a couple and had pre drinks a bottle of...wine and courses each total price of pounds. Which I find about average in value The portions were about right size and comparable to other restaurants and service was quick and pleasant

Firstly I would like to say that the service was excellent, unfortunately while the food was very good the portions were simply too small. It is not a cheap pub to eat at therefore you assume a decent sized adult portion will be served instead...we received child size portions.
