What Natasha Griffiths doesn't like about Hodgkinson's:
Had dinner with wife, daughter and I. We were the only people there initially. Then just other tables of guests later on. The soup amount was very small and the bread with the smoked mackerel a bit crusty. The vegetables and trout were well...cooked. But at for adults and a child it was overpriced. View all feedback.
We visited this restaurant for my birthday in March and returned last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are looking forward to another visit before Christmas. It is a truly beautiful place with a lovely host and wonderful breakfast.

We visited matlock bath with friends and decided to book hodgkinsons restaurant on recommendation. we were certainly not disappointed. eating was amazing and beautifully presented. it was all cooked to perfection and so fresh and absolutely delicious. the whole evening offered an unforgettable experience that gave them the feeling of being transported back to the Victorian aria. I have to admit at the arrival I was not sure what to expect, but we were made to feel so welcome, served delicious food and received exceptional service. this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
Our 2 nights stay was quite an experience and we were amazed by it. We loved the old building with its labyrinthic corridors up to the top floor where our large, luminous room, overlooking the main road was located, the Victorian decorations with myriad of...details we discovered every time we had a look around. What was really unnerving was the fact that everything was clean and looked new and old at the same time it did not feel like an old place, it felt as we were transported back in time (not completely, but as much as you can expect – the place is electrified and it has wifi, the gaslighting was replaced . Excellent bed and bathroom, covid secure measures taken in the whole building, tasty breakfast and dinner. Zoe Chris, the owners, put a lot of love and work in upkeeping this historic building, hotel and restaurant. We thank them for the great hosting and the suggestions for eating out and walk routes in the area. We apologise we did not realise Monday after Easter holidays was a quiet night, and we forced them to keep the restaurant open for dinner for the two of us only. We loved our stay and we would like to come back.
We were staying at the hotel and decided to eat there 2 of the nights and we certainly were not disappointed. The food was cooked to perfection. It is very rare that I get a steak just exactly the way I like it, but Chris...did just that. Breakfast was included in our stay and what a breakfast, all good quality produce and well presented. A breakfast that set you up for the day.
