Nestled in Bakewell, this charming eatery offers a delightful mix of home-cooked dishes and a cozy ambiance, complete with a log fire in winter. While many patrons rave about the extensive menu, featuring traditional English fare and excellent daily specials, experiences with service quality vary significantly. The cozy upstairs setting includes a warm, real log fire in the winter. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The menu features traditional English dishes at great value. What Ken H dislikes about Byways:
Very poor service. We visited due to the fact that Gluten Free Food was advertised. We ordered coffee, toast and a toasted teacake. Our coffee came and 10 minutes later no sign of our light bite. Lovely place to have a breakfast. It also has a large variety of foods and tea and caters for vegetarians

Booked table as there were 6 of us. Staff most accommodating. We needed children's and gluten free meals. Children's were brought quickly and very good sized portions. Gluten free fish and chips were lovely. I'd go again

These are upstairs rooms with a variety of tables in just a couple of rooms. Welcomed and seated quickly. The menu isn't vast but I would say adequate for the needs of visitors. Sandwiches with salad, Cole slaw and crisps on the side, were made freshly. Although the bread slices were fairly thick the sandwiches had plenty of filling and tasted very nice. We had the Bakewell tart to follow, which was served warm and was absolutely delicious.
