The Brasserie At Darleys
Description
Darleys has sparked a diverse array of opinions, showcasing both culinary brilliance and areas needing improvement. Many patrons rave about the exquisite tasting menus and impeccable service, particularly highlighting the delightful ambiance and river views. However, some have expressed disappointment in the consistency of the food, citing bland flavors and poorly executed dishes. Mixed experiences with service quality and wait times further contribute to the restaurant's polarizing reputation. Despite the culinary highs, concerns regarding pricing versus value and occasional mishaps have left certain diners hesitant to return, making Darley’s a destination of intriguing contrasts.

We went for the new music Sundays and had a few small plates. Good location for a sunny day on the deck by the river. Access is a difficult now that the bridge is closed.
I took my partner here for his 31st birthday. Unfortunately even though I left clear booking notes when we arrived the server wasn't sure which of us were celebrating our birthday. Nevertheless they gave us a lovely card and they also brought out a little dessert at the end with happy birthday which was delightful. I chose to come here for this occasion as I had read online about how great it is and how it has won awards. Firstly the olives were clearly not fresh which for somewhere like this was rather surprising. But I must say the scallops were lovely and cooked perfectly. But then the mains, both the ribeye steaks were tough and managing restaurants myself I am very aware that this is not down to the cook but the meat itself, which shows a lack of quality produce in my opinion. But also my partners was very overcooked on one half. Also the mushrooms and broccoli we ordered were unbelievably bland, no salt in sight and it was glaringly obviously that the mushrooms were cooked pre-service and heated up because they no longer tasted of anything. The broccoli was cooked perfectly but the only flavour was the sprinkle of chilli, no butter or salt or anything to make it really tasty. Also there was two main dishes unavailable which were the lobster and the chicken, we definitely would have ordered the lobster on the side of our steak but I do understand that on a Sunday evening there is nothing you can do if you run out, but was just a bit sad. We didn't complain at the time about any of this although I did want to say something, my partner didn't want me to make a big deal on his birthday although he was very disappointed with the quality. I know it is unfair to not give them the opportunity to fix the issue in house on the day, but I really wanted my partner to have the best birthday so i didn't want to make a big thing at the time. However having paid £135 (pre tip) for our meal we just felt let down by the quality of the experience. I did leave a £15 tip because the FOH team were lovely. But unfortunately having left 70% of our mains on the plates, we couldn't leave happy. And to top it off, they sent me an email survey asking about our experience and I filled it in with all this info and never heard back. It would have been nice to have felt like they actually cared about my feedback. I usually give restaurants at least 2 chances before writing them off, but unfortunately due to the price-tag Vs quality, this place only gets 1 chance.
Excellent place to come and celebrate a milestone birthday. Food is fantastic and the service is brilliant.
Always a special place to go for its location by the river and weir but the food quality was exceptional! Wonderful flavours, beautifully cooked and presented and pleasant helpful waiting staff one of the best meals I’ve had in Derby. Will look forward to returning and would highly recommend!
