The place itself was charming, clea... read more We found this restaurant by the square in Dax and as the menu looked good went in. The staff were lovely, helpful and quick. The place itself was charming, clean and bright with lots of character. It was almost full on a Monday evening which boded well. The menu was excellent, covering both fish and meat, with plenty of choice, and the taste was delicious. Obviously the paella was a local favourite but we had different fish dishes. The tapas dishes looked great too. The price was very good and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The town was 'dead ' at 7pm when we arrived but we... read more The last time we were in Dax was 15 years ago. We were simply there as a stop off en route to St Jean de Lux. The town was 'dead ' at 7pm when we arrived but we fell upon what turned out to be the most amazing tapas bar purely by accident. It was amazing. Rustic, charming service, best Sangria and tapas we had had in years. So, all these years later, once again en route from La Rochelle to St Jean de Lux we did a detour to DAX not thinking for one minute that the bar/restaurant would still be there. It was. Nothing had changed. We even sat on the same stools at a bar table. Once again, the Sangria was out of this world and the tapas were fantastic. Better than any formal meal. We ate meatballs, chevre balls, chorizo on bread, calamari and more. Every bite was delicious. We HAVE to go back to work our way through the rest of the tapas menu. Can 't wait. You can do no better than this wonderful, simple, cosy place. Thank you El Meson for changing nothing. Oh, our bill including 4 sangrias and more food than we could eat was 24 euros.
