Whitey's - DAVISON
Whitey's
Description
Whitey's has long been a beloved seafood destination, known for its enticing salad bar and a menu featuring freshly prepared dishes. While patrons rave about the coconut shrimp and Great Lakes Catch, others have reported inconsistent service and occasional dining setbacks, such as cold meals and insect disturbances. Nonetheless, many diners celebrate the attentive staff and the restaurant's captivating nautical decor. With a legacy that has seen families returning for years, Whitey's remains a local favorite, though it faces the ongoing challenge of balancing quality and service to truly honor its heritage.

The decor was captivating, featuring ship figureheads, a ship's steering wheel, etched glass scenes, and stools with real legs! Our server, Ashley, was exceptional—she didn't rush us at all and repeatedly encouraged us to take our time. When my wife asked for a recommendation, she suggested the Great Lakes Catch, which includes a soup and salad bar. If you enjoy fish, this is a must-try! It features a delightful mix of freshwater favorites: tender yellow lake perch, sweet bluegill fillets, and Canadian walleye, all lightly pan-fried. My wife chose the Great Lakes Catch, which came with the soup and salad bar along with a side of Sweet Potato Casserole. I opted for just the soup and salad bar. The New England Clam Chowder was some of the best I've had—rich and creamy, packed with potatoes, corn, onion, bacon, and, of course, clams. The salad bar offered a fantastic variety of items, including pasta, an assortment of vegetables, and numerous condiments. There was so much fish that my wife was able to share a small piece of each type, along with some of the Sweet Potato Casserole. Ashley was incredibly accommodating and helpful, which we truly appreciated. We'll definitely be returning to Whitey's, and hopefully, Ashley will be our server again. They also have a bar and a separate area for take-out service.
Had a small group dine in for dinner and it was amazing. Was my first time trying Whiteys. Had shrimp basket with fries. Everyone else had fish and chips with the included salad bar. Everyone loved their meal. Definitely going back and loved the tasty free bread for the table. Service was amazing. Waitress was very attentive, polite and helpful
We often visit Whitey's and usually have a great experience with our meals. I do wish there were a bit more consistency with the menu, as there have been 2-3 changes in recent months, including the removal of several favorites. Despite that, I still really enjoy dining here. It's the best fish in the area!
Fair price for what you geat. We drive a good hour for the best fish and chips in the world. I get a baked potatoe or sweet potatoe. Salad bar is wonderful!
We have been to Whitey's man times over the years and usually look forward to a trip back there. Whitey's has a very nice salad bar, their seafood choices are usually above average ,and the service is generally OK. On our recent visit our waitress was (Jul18) ,either Julia or Julie , and was absolutely the worst waitress we've had there , the dinners came cold , she didn't know how to clear dishes , fill glasses ,ect.... our visit was also invaded by a few house flies the entire time, which has occurred before. I looked for a manager on the way out to voice some concerns, but like typically, I have never noticed a managers presence on the floor. This has been and can be a great seafood restaurant again, but the management here has got a lot of tightening up to do to bring Whiteys back to the level that would of made the Hilgendorfs proud of it.
