Shah's Halal Food - Davis

Super flavorful and a really good portion. Usually when I treat myself and buy lunch I come here!

It's a food truck I see around a lot in the Davis area, especially on campus. I was looking forward to trying it because I've heard good things from colleagues. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. I ordered the lamb gyros. First off, the lamb was in chunks. It was the texture of fish cake which was unexpected. Normally they're sliced and crispy (after being cooked on a vertical rotisserie), which would have made it easier to eat when wrapped in pita. Instead, all the meat kept falling out. The gyros was pretty basic- lamb, lettuce, and white (garlic) sauce/spicy sauce. Some tomatoes added in would have been nice.

We got a spicy chicken and a lamb gyro and both were 10/10. Wonderful. Amazing. Fantastic.

The food is fantastic, and the staff is consistently very friendly. It's also incredibly convenient since the food options at UCD can be quite lacking. The dining halls aren't always open, and the different cafes on campus tend to have unpredictable hours, making them quite unreliable. However, Shah's is always available. It would be great if their menu offered a wider selection.
