Visitors have been enjoying this restaurant for 8-10 years. Despite some recent service mishaps, the location and food remain a big draw. The varied menu offers good options for vegans, and the Old Original Ruby Ale is a highlight. The lovely canal-side setting, attentive staff, and excellent food make for a pleasant dining experience. Portions are generous, and the roast beef is especially recommended. The Gilchrist's is worth the journey from Oxford and is a favorite spot for many locals. With tasty food, friendly staff, and a beautiful setting, there's plenty to appreciate at this charming pub.

Great pub. Beautiful location right beside the canal. Only shame is they are lacking a good lunch menu. It’s all big meals. Sometimes you just want a jacket potato or baguette. If they changed this, we would visit more often View all feedback.

We dropped in for a drink, the pub atmosphere and setting was great. My pint was lovely and there was a good range of ales and lagers on tap. Looking forward to coming back to try the food. Price per person: £1–10 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Fab food great service, although the vegetarian options are sadly a tad limited. Vegetarian options: The options available are very good, but the selection is fairly limited it should also be noted that several of the items marked vegetarian aren't as they include bacon!! We visited here in June 2023. Then it was a great pub, friendly staff, comfortable and great Everard's Ales, but with an underwhelming menu. Today the menu was much improved and the quality was excellent. Great sea bass, superb (and large) sticky toffee pudding with real custard (the latter a rarity nowadays). Remains a lovely pub. Great real ales. Was extremely busy (we booked for a Friday at 6.30 pm) and staff were working really hard but remained cheerful, friendly and helpful. Service was prompt but at no time did we feel rushed.
