Oswald's Stables Pub - Darlington

Delicious menu, no issues. I tried the steak the first night and the beef stroganoff the next evening. The poached pear was absolutely amazing!

I made a reservation at Oswalds for my grandmother's 90th birthday with 16 guests. The initial communication via email and phone was good, but we were placed in a private room despite requesting a non-private room. We were expecting to be seated in the conservatory, which was my grandmother's preference. Unfortunately, some guests couldn't attend due to Covid, and we were overcharged for the extra meals that were canceled in advance. It took weeks of following up to get a refund. Apart from the money issue, the lack of customer service was disappointing. The events team was responsive, but the waiting staff on the day seemed unhappy, and the management was unhelpful and lacked knowledge of the situation. They offered no apologies and came across as uncaring. Good customer service and friendliness cost nothing, so it's a shame that this experience was not more positive. I won't be booking any future events at the Hallgarth or recommending it to others.

We dined at this restaurant on the first night of our visit. Unfortunately, the food was not very good - the chicken was dry, the onion rings were burnt, the pizza was burnt, and even the chips were burnt.

Food tasty but short on portion size. Main course needs to be on a plate not in a bowl. Short of vegetables.

We had dinner one night and two breakfasts, on a two night stay in the hotel. The dinner was way below par my medium well steak has provided new soles for my shoes having been way overcooked and tough as leather. Other dishes were equally uninspiring and the menu limited. Breakfast buffet was OK on choice (not 'luxury ' though) but hot food in the buffet was barely tepid! Very unappetising. Overall very disappointing.
