What User doesn't like about Casoni:
I wanted to try casoni for about 12 months, but as I love about four hours of sydney, there were times when we couldn't get it. Finally, it tried this long-awaiting and hate to say it, I let myself feel disappointed. the service found...was nice, but eating was not all that it was cracked up. we shared a carpaccio star who was far too rich and about which makes in taste, and the toast that it was on went quite soggy,... Came here during yellow pop up so this was great if you are vegetarian as they used fresh local vegetables and the menu had a large focus on this. Went for the degustation menu and were introduced to many wonderful flavors. Salmon salad was dressed well and salmon was very fresh. I though the pasta was quite different! Had the look of a pasta but tasted like a Thai larb salad! We also ordered an additional matzo ball soup to start as recommended by the waitress and it was so yummy!
I can't believe how lucky we were to stumble upon this great little Pop-up kitchen takeover by Adam Wolfers. A really interesting Sharing Menu was served with matching wine for this Vegetarian Jewish influenced style.First course was an absolutely delectable Cultured Curd with sour Persimmon, matched with a Das Sakrileg Riesling from WA. This was followed by my favourite dish of the night, Smoked Trout with roe emulsion and watermelon radish. The wine match was a Yarra Valley Chardonnay from Bobar. Plate number three was a delicious Jerusalem Artichoke with Hispy Cabagge and mushroom dish matched with a Pinot Noir from the Mornington Peninsula, followed by the last plate, Celeriac Cocoa Butter Malawach, matched with a wonderful Kosher Shiraz from a Hunter winery called Harkham. I must say that Marc Dempsey did a sensational job matching beautiful, lesser known wineries, with the delights Adam was creating in the kitchen. His service, knowledge and friendliness really topped off a great night. These two guys are high on the radar of interest, and we watch patiently to see what their next little venture brings.
Every time I have visited Casoni I have been blown away by the quality of the food. The pumpkin ravioli is the stand out dish. The restaurant is ambient, the staff are attentive and the tableware is stylish. Everyone time an out-of-towner visits me in Sydney, I bring them here. Keep up the good work.
Food was excellent, particularly the gnocchi. Made for a slightly awkward checkout when they held the eftpos machine to me asking for a tip.
