It seems to be very dirty, particularly the unprofessional looking and behaving old guy who is making the grill. His nails are full of black mess which is disgusting. They charge $35 for 4 pieces of lamb cutlets and cutlets are a low-quality grocery store lamb cutlets. The salad is also same, it's like a salad package from a supermarket. Overall, it's a dirty, unprofessional and very bad in value restaurant.

Most went uneaten. -SIX dollars for any sauce, which turns out is a bit of sauce in a gravy bowl -the six dollar mushroom sauce is chopped button mushrooms, stock gravy and apparently about 8 cloves of garlic. -just honestly, not very good food. I've had good Balkan food and this is not it. Sorry!

It should be, since it's family-run & they've been grilling at this window for decades. A lot of the clientele are also long-timers. Perfectly grilled plain fish (preceded by grilled scampi or scallops for special occasions), bowl of potato/cabbage salad, no frills with the food, service or surroundings. The cabbage rolls with mash are tasty & really good in winter, the mixed grill is a good buy, the seafood platters will impress mussel & prawn lovers, the Eastern European style pancakes are only for massive eaters. But's it's really about the grilled meat & seafood, I wouldn't bother ordering anything else here. I'm not sure what this place would seem like to a newcomer. It's dark, a bit drab, & not cheap. You probably pay the same for seafood in some flashy harbourside seafood places. But I like the lack of pretense & will probably keep coming back forever.

With a variety of seafood to try and tantalising Croatian flavours, The Balkan won’t disappoint! I definitely recommend their platters and their take on potato salad which is so good!
