Was Sammy Smith at Cafe Hiro a mag?
I have eaten almost everything on the menu. My favorite is the ahi tuna tartar. When we lived in California we ate here once a week. We have lived in Oregon for 13 years and every trip to CA takes us right to Hero. View all feedback.
I'm not kidding when I say this place is extremely good. Like very very good. It's a Italian Japanese fusion restaurant with a Vibe that takes you away to another place once you walk in. The restaurant is decorated throughout and painted on the ceiling to give a calming and serene feeling. It's one of those restaurants where you can tell that the chef in the back truly cares about the food they're putting out.Would I recommend it? Yes.Would I go again? Yes.Would I order the exact same things? Hell yes.Should you take your baby mama and all your friends? Definitely.
Charming little authentic Japanese eatery. The food is delicious, and the service is excellent.
Cafe Hiro is tucked away in a typical LA strip mall, surrounded by a few Asian eateries. Upon entering the restaurant, a friendly young lady greeted us and checked our reservation before seating us. Now, let's talk about the food. **Calamari Fritti:** The presentation was nice, with well-shaped rings sprinkled with Parmesan and parsley, accompanied by lemon wedges. However, the calamari was tough—very tough. It could have really benefited from a garlic or Sriracha aioli to make it more enjoyable. Unfortunately, this was a letdown. **Spaghetti Carbonara:** This dish was decent, but it seems like this restaurant believes that salt is the enemy! Come on! A little salt enhances flavors, and spaghetti needs to be boiled in a well-salted water to avoid tasting bland. I enjoy my Carbonara saucy, and at least that was delivered here. The ham and bacon were generously added, giving it some character, but please, chef—next time, don’t hold back on the salt! **Spaghetti with Garlic and Mushrooms:** This dish reminded me of a typical Japanese soup, loaded with pasta, some vegetables, and broth. This was my wife's choice, so I only sampled a couple of bites, but once again, it was lacking salt. Overall, I wasn’t impressed. It’s disappointing to write a negative review, especially since the service was lovely and parking was easy to find.
I was thrilled to try the Japanese-Italian fusion concept. The staff were welcoming, the ambiance was clean and tidy, but the food was just mediocre.
