On a recent trip to Cusco, Peru, I hosted a final dinner for a group of women I was leading. My goal was to find a restaurant that not only served good food but also supported a good cause! Mama Seledonia's provided the perfect combination! The restaurant's menu offered a variety of entree choices. Group members were excited about the bacon wrapped alpaca rolls, quinoa crusted chicken and trout served with a passion fruit glaze. No one was disappointed with their choice. Each of the entrees was delicious and presented beautifully. The Pisco Sours were delicious and the wine and beer choices did not disappoint! Dinner was memorable but the rest of the story enriches the experience beyond just having a meal. Mama Seledonia graciously spoke to our group after dinner. She shared that early in her life, she was a single mother. Working in various restaurants and a couple of private homes helped hone her skills as a chef. Her dream was to have her own restaurant and help other women in difficult situations. A local banker's willingness to loan Seledonia money enabled her to open her own restaurant Mama Seledondia. Beyond the delicious food Seledonia serves her guests, her dream involves providing employment to single mothers. From personal experience, Seledonia understands how difficult it is to work when child care is an issue. Therefore, her mission is not only to provide women with work but also to assist in providing quality childcare. Seledonia's smile, hospitality, culinary gift, leadership skills and compassion for others creates a dining experience that is unforgettable! I can't wait to return in 2019 with Ripple Effect Journey travelers for my next meal at Mama Seledonia!
We were a group of 23 people who had made a reservation in advance. Nevertheless the staff was absolutely not prepared. We waited more than one hour for the drinks, they still did not deliver a pisco sour, a strawberry lassi and a banana lassi btw it took them over 45 minutes to realize they were out of mango lassi . Meanwhile the guest at the other table already got their second drinks. The food Alpaca in wine sauce and Alpaca a la pimiento would have been okay, unfortunately they were not able to deliver the meat medium, additionally there was too much salt ? involved. When finally I got my pisco sour, the glass was half the size of the other pisco sours on the table of course, the price was the same . Would not recommend, would not go there again.
Amazing eating and looking. best meal we had in peru (alpaca meat.) the server were very nice and friendly. everyone who works there had a smile, so we knew that our food was prepared slowly and with care. I will definitely come back to try the kiss and will recommend to anyone who comes to cusco.
Holy Mother! this place is wonderful. good that we came back! I'm really picky where I eat, but everything we ordered was just excellent. we had chicken soup on the first day (complete when they 're feeling under the weather or want a light evening meal,) chaufa de quinoa, grilled salmon with passion overstated and their subscript gloomy: vinua. on the second day we had grilled alpaka and roasted cuy (lea gay. try it and leave her prejudice back. they will not regret it,) and of course vinua again. for drinks they try their te piteado, that is a hot drink from tee, some fruits and pisco. perfect for cold nights. and the attention was excellent with the owner cooking everything and ensuring that we comfortably and enjoyed eating. from all places we tried, that was by far the best.
