Good place to eat.We went to dinner and ordered an ox burger and calf solo. meats were delicious and homemade potatoes, which are always appreciated. I recommend. View all feedback.
We walked past this restaurant early evening and my partner was drawn to a risotto on the menu. upon questioning the waiter who said it was gluten free, we decided to try. When ordering and further questioning the waiter about the fact it was called a false rissotto, we were told it was actually small pasta shaped like rice! when i pointed out that pasta contains gluten, he went and checked and sure enough it was bread pasta. My partner decided she would still try it, but i could not, so i decided on the cod in tomate sauce. we then questioned the waiter as to how it was cooked and told it was fried on its own and the chips that accompanied were fried in a seperate fryer only for chips. when the cod arrived i took a fork full and swallowed, but felt a strange texture on the fish. the fish was coated in bread crumbs and fried , then covered in a tomato sauce! i imediately pointed out the fact that it had a batter on it and it was exchanged for tuna. Unfortunately as is the case with a celiac, i then started suffering an hour or so later and was ill for most of the night.
It would be unfair of us to provide a poor review, although our experience was an average one (at best . Bar del Castillo (Cuenca can be found at the top of the hill, walking past some nice views out to the right. The area and views is worth the walk up the hill. During our visit and the time we arrived (We did not book anywhere to eat , most places in the area we were staying were closed and we had a choice of two places to eat at the top of the hill and that were open at the time. We had to eat and therefore walked into Bar del Castillo. In summary we had between an average to below average experience. Service to customers needed improving and the food was very basic and not particularly tasty (We swapped foods as one of us could not eat what we had ordered! . That said, the establishment did seem to have a number of local residents in. The menu was limited. It is not a place we would recommend. However, as explained, if your in this area, you may be limited to what's open. If visiting, I hope you read this and can therefore manage your expectations. As the food was cheap, if there were several other places open, we would have paid without making a fuss and simply ate somewhere else.
Very rude staff. The waitress was really aggressive towards us . She charged 3 tables in total and refused to be paid each table separately. Never going again!
Super popular with the locals the place can get packed and finding a table challenging. The staff are pretty friendly and work hard. The food was nothing remarkable, but affordable given the location. Another review states this is the only place with a view which is not correct (their photo of the 'view ' is from an entirely different part of town). There are a cluster of restaurants/bars in this area, all with the same views. If you happen to be here and find a table, it 's an ok option, but certainly don 't go out of your way.
If you’re looking for good food inside the castle walls there are really no options. Tried three different restaurants. All very basic and simple cooking. Nothing to write home about. Plain fried meat or fish with some chips on the side mostly. This bar, Bar del Castillo, had the advantage that they did have some tables at the other side of the street, where there’s actually any view at all of the valley and not just parked cars in front of you. Basic but decent food. Tried pizza and the nice meat and cheese platter. Good barbecued squid too. At the right spot you’ll get a view of the casas colgadas. Best option here is maybe to go for a few drinks and then have your dinner downtown.
