What Eve doesn't like about Mar Y Sol Resturant Y Pupuseria:
I went to eat lunch with 2 relatives, we ordered 3 plates to eat-in, and 2 more to go. They brought the plates one at a time each plate it took like 20+ minutes, on Marysol plate , the meat was tender but very salty. There were 2 old grandpas drinking alcohol* without ordering food, putting this loud ugly music on a jube box, that was annoying! We paid and finished eating, and the take-out food was not ready, we waite... View all feedback.
Our go to place for pupusas. HP has a lot of places for cheap pupusas but they aren't good. We tried a restaurant for $1 pupusas on Pacific and they were all masa and no filling. There is another local restaurant that offers pupusas but overpriced. Marysol has decent priced pupusas with a good filling amount. They are in Cudahy which is not too far from HP. Its easy to call and place an order however it does take some time for your order to be ready so make sure to order with plenty of time ahead.
The waitress who answered the phone was very rude. Called to place an order . I was placed on hold for 13 minutes. Called back, now no one answered, they picked up the phone without answering and hung up the phone . I attempted to call again and they disconnected the line . When I went in person, I saw the personnel answering the phone . Any complaints Don Mario is the owner I was told . Oh and because they didn't answer my call I had to wait 20-35 minutes for my food.
Upon my first impression, the restaurant seemed quite run down and not very clean. It has a B rating, which is understandable considering the state of the restrooms. I dread to think how the kitchen might look. There are two bathrooms: one designated for women and the other an all-gender bathroom, which can be confusing. It would be better if both restrooms were changed to all-gender. They have a cheap Febreze air freshener on a shelf that does nothing to mask the awful smell in the bathrooms. The soap dispenser was missing a lid, and the soap appeared to be a mix of white and pink, as they had refilled it carelessly. The floors were dirty, and there were visible signs of previous users in the bins, which smelled strongly of urine—it's clear that they don't clean frequently. The dining room itself is a bit dark, and the music was way too loud; my party had trouble hearing each other, and our waitress struggled to hear us as well. When we asked if the music could be turned down, the waitress explained that they didn’t control the music or its volume. Overall, the interior of the restaurant felt dull and outdated. While the waitresses are all beautiful, it appeared as though there was pressure for them to look a certain way to attract customers, which felt a bit sexist. They seemed uncomfortable in their tight clothing while working, and their lovely faces deserve a nicer environment to shine in. Given all of this, I recommend ordering food for takeout or delivery instead. You’ll have a much better experience enjoying the delicious food in the comfort of your own home.
When our food finally arrived, it was served piping hot. The Pupusas were delicious, and we also tried the Platanitos, which were decent. Their curtido, a traditional cabbage mix with vinegar, was quite good and complemented the meal nicely. We ordered Ensalada to drink, which had a pleasant sweet-and-sour flavor that I personally enjoyed. The Pastelitos de Carne were satisfactory, but I wouldn't say they stood out. The waitress checked on us only twice during our meal, possibly because they were busy, especially considering it was a Sunday. Overall, the experience was good, and I would recommend it, keeping in mind the wait time for the food.
I was really looking forward to dining here after several years, but I was disappointed by the tiny portion sizes and the outrageous prices. I ordered a side of chorizo, and all I got were three small pieces for $8.50. It feels like the owners are taking advantage of their customers. I recommend finding a place where the price matches the quality and portion size!
