I am a bit of a foodie so both eat out alot and am quite particular so I do not say lightly that one of the best meals I have ever eaten was at this restaurant. The Pumpkin Flower appetizer paired with a local Mexican white wine was other worldly. Our service was impeccable friendly, attentive and informative without being intrusive.
The food was great. The service was great. It was a great evening. Until it came to paying the bill! As we have encountered in some other restaurants, we were asked what tip we would like to leave. I was a little taken aback by that and when I didn't respond right away the waitor gave me the machine with a figure on it that was more than the bill (i.e. it was the tip). I asked him what percentage tip the figure represented and he said 20%. I said 15% and that was how the bill was settled. But the entire episode left us with a bad taste for what otherwise was a great evening. Why can't restaurants like La Bodega process the charge card and leave it to us to add the tip we want to leave? It led to an awkward situation that could have been avoided.
It has a pleasant atmosphere, good service, food. My husband is Mexican, and I am from the Caribbean, therefore I am used to a different type of seasonings flavors. I consider myself a work in progress when it comes to the Mexican food, flavor seasoning.
I hate to write negative reviews, but I am afraid that the food and service here were not good enough. The restaurant was very quiet though they managed to have live music from another room fighting with the piped music on the terrace. Water took 10 minutes to arrive and was the wrong type. A salad was forgotten. Soups were the highlight- one with tortilla and the other a chicken broth. The main course had dry and chewy chicken with a mole sauce and frozen vegetables- really?? When we left only 8% tip, the waiter was decidedly frosty- you get what you deserve I am afraid.
Visited with a couple of friends and we were sited right away. It was an interesting experience because the building is an old house from the XIX century. Drinks and food were as expected and there was live music for a bit of dancing which was a pleasant surprise. The only downside was that the music was a bit too loud but I guess that's normal for this kind of places. All in all a good experience, would visit again.
