I went to El Califa on my own 6 years ago and i had such a nice time, so as you can imagine there was a lot of pressure when i took my partner last week. There was no need to worry as it was exactly the same as i remember it, the food and the service was excellent, this shows at the ques that form outside the door, one of our favourite dishes was pork wrapped in fried cheese and i can say it was magnificent. When we visit Mexico city agian El Califa will be at the to of our list to go again
Compared to other places this one fell short. The ambience was non-existent and the food was average at best. Service was also a little rushed.
Compared to other Mexican food that we have had, our experience at El Califa was disappointing. Perhaps we just didn’t know how to order proper tacos at this place but the food was lacking in substance and taste. They did bring us 5 side sauces to use but they were all way to spicy for us. Overall the meals were quite small for the price and we ended up grabbing a taco from the street vendors on the way back to the hotel as a top up.
We ordered from here and had it delivered. We got guacamole, tacos pastor, steak tacos, and all the fixings onions, pineapple, cilantro, salsas). The tacos are bite size, so we each had at least a half dozen apiece. The salsas were fresh and delicious. It was so good! For our last meal in Mexico before heading home, it was perfect.
I was staying at the hotel next door and ordered food for pick up through Uber Eats. Food was ready in about 15 minutes and was quite tasty. Tacos are the specialty, but we also ordered costars. The place can get busy at times, but all of the staff I interacted with were helpful and courteous. Open late.
