Description

**Umeya: A Shift from Local Gem to Disappointment**

Umeya, a once-beloved sushi bar, has seen a rocky transition under new ownership. Patrons note a decline in fish quality, with an unsettling hue marking the tuna. While some praise the freshness and skill in preparation, many experience unwelcoming service and inconsistent attitudes from the staff. The limited menu, coupled with high prices and meager portion sizes, further alienates loyal customers. Despite the restaurant maintaining a clean atmosphere, reports of rudeness, declining dish quality, and a lack of seasoning mar its reputation. Ultimately, Umeya is caught between maintaining its legacy and evolving under new management.

Very fresh sushi. Been getting sushi here for the past 10 years and quality is consistent

NEW OWNERSHIP. The family that has owned Umeya for what seems like forever now has recently sold the restaurant. I am all for giving new places and people a fresh fair chance and did just that. Unfortunately, the new ownership has taken this once local gem in the opposite direction. Fish, like the tuna, is no longer that beautiful color accustomed to a high end sushi spot that takes pride in their fish. It is now that odd neon pink color that comes with poor freezing techniques on low quality tuna. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I plan on revisiting Umeya later and seeing if things have improved. If it does get better I will update my review. Fingers crossed.

Friendly family business. They remember you if you're a regular. Their sashimi is amazing incredibly fresh and silky like butter! Their sashimi sushi combos are definitely good value for what you get!

Ordered take out during covid the only option they offer. Phone calls can be made after 2:00p, but I couldn't get a hold of someone until closer to 2:30p. Even for take out, their sushi continues to be of epic quality, and small quantity. It's a quality over quantity type of place, and when it comes to sushi quality wins. Absolutely without a doubt, plan on getting the sushi omekase. The quality of the sushi is beyond anything that they will offer in their regular sushi and sashimi entrees, which admittedly I order with the omekase since the portions are small. For four and a half (child) ppl, I ordered: 3 sushi omekase 1 unaju (eel on rice) 1 sushi/sashimi combo 1 sashimi entree Nabeyaki udon which only came with one fried shrimp and sadly they had already mixed the noodles in the broth so by the time I got home most of the broth was soaked in by the mushy noodles. Note let them know you absolutely want the noodles packed separately. We also received a bowl of rice, 6 miso soups, and 6 small salads, which was essential a handful of romaine lettuce. Their heavy use of styrofoam was disappointing, but otherwise a solid take out meal.

The food is decent, but the attitude of the owners and staff leaves much to be desired. The prices are quite high, and you would expect a warmer welcome for that kind of cost. Additionally, they don't consistently wear masks. I won't be coming back.
