This is the epitome of good, local French cuisine. We arrived on a Friday night to a Belgian evening and had a really excellent Beer cooked Beef (with frites, of course! At 12 Euros for 2 courses this was an absolute steal. Do go you will not be disappointed. View all feedback.
What Roland Schmitt doesn't like about L'Auberge de Brothelande:
Nous avons mangés un midi. Le personnel pas forcément aimable. En entrée, beignets d'oignons surgelés premier prix je pense, boule de viande de bœuf sans intérêt et sèche!Le seul point positif les frites. Cela fait peu pour un repas.Riz au lait infecte peu sucré et avec un arrière gout désagréable.Nous n'y retournerons jamais. View all feedback.
Went there for a lunch and had the workers' menu which is the only option available at lunchtime. The cost of this menu is £12 and you get a starter, a main, cheeseboard, pudding, coffee and 1/2 bottle of either red wine or cider each. Wow! This is the best value for money restaurant in the vicinity. The food was delicious, homemade and different. There was plenty in the plate. The service was attentive although a smile was a bit missing at times. There are two restaurant room, one which is nicer than the other one as it has a fireplace! Would I go there again? Yes, definitely!
Six of us went for Sunday lunch and decided to splash out on the a la carte. Delicious starters of Thai prawns, soup and various followed by lemon sole, smoked pave de saumon and an excellent smoked rib of beef. Everyone was delighted. The service is not quick, but the pause allowed us to recuperate from the previous course and attack the new one with gusto. There is a mediocre wine list, but perfectly satisfactory to complement our order. It 's a team of two people, he does the cooking and she serves. They really do work very hard indeed. We did not hold back on anything and at 30 Euros a head, well worth it. Do go.
Always a sign of good food when vans parked outside at lunchtime, and indeed it was. Choice of two dishes for each course, fresh cooked and plentiful portions. Bottle of cider, wine and water on each table. Log fire lit, traditional, cosy and simple decor. We look forward to return visits.
Found this great place by chance. It was almost full at lunchtime in January and that tells me everything I need to know. Wonderful menu for 11 Euros of starter. I had Fish Terrine, my Son had Gesier (duck gizzards) we both had the Gammon steak with a demi glace sauce and home made Frites, cheeseboard, puds, wine, coffee. I'm moving to the vicinity soon and this will be my local eatery.
