Greggs in Durham is centrally located on Saddler Street, right by the market place. If you are looking for very reasonably priced sandwiches, wraps, pies and cakes, this is the place to be. One can sit in or take it away. The sandwiches and wraps are always very fresh and the coffee is good too. I don't think you could beat the place for basic casual food and value for money. What alexadams62 doesn't like about Greggs:
Came in here for my lunch while I was visiting Durham . The service quick and the staff made sure the queue was going down. I sat in with lunch up stairs and when I got up stairs the bin was over flowing with rubbish and they were trays with rubbish on them near the bin so I sat there for a moments until I saw a staff member coming up stairs to clean the bin they put rubbish that were on the tries in a new bin bag th... A big fan of Greggs ,most every high street has an outlet, walking around the streets of Durham we chanced upon this Greggs down Saddler Street. Your typical Greggs, neat and tidy, a glass fronted serving bar showcases the goodies on offer, staff in here were super friendly, my twin brother Stephen and I purchased 4 sausage rolls, £3 for four sausage rolls, absolutely great value for money and in my opinion the best sausage rolls in the United Kingdom, love them,we munched our pastries outside and for a first time visit to this particular Greggs we were totally impressed, its easy to locate along Saddler Street, most definitely well worth checking out.
Went for breakfast, stood in the socially distanced queue outside for 20 minutes, then a further 10 minutes inside, in which (I assume she was the manager) a very angry blonde haired woman behind the counter barked orders at the customers that on 5 were allowed in the shop, so we all had to move back, some had to go back outside, and she constantly barked orders constantly at the staff she was working with (mini hitler) whilst packing bags and bags of breakfast sandwiches for dual in and just eat orders (she obvs couldn’t deal with the pressure). When I eventually got served I ordered 2 bacon sausage egg baguettes and 2 of the same but in buns, 2 coffees and a mince pie. I was informed that there was no bacon and I’d have to wait 5 minutes more (I didn’t mind considering how long I’d already waited). We really enjoy Greggs breaky sandwiches, I’ve never had a bad one yet, until today, they didn’t taste like the ones we normally get, my sausages were over cooked and greasy, the omelette was burnt and tasteless, the hubby didn’t get any sausages on his, the kids took one bite of theirs and threw them in the bin. I also had to remind the girl about my mince pie before paying twice and then again when she gave me our sandwiches. All of the staff were miserable throughout, and were rude in their manner to the customers. Furthermore there was nowhere to stand whilst waiting for the food as the restaurant part was blocked off for just eat orders, then people who had rang in could ignore walk to the front and pay in the normal service area, pushing customers who had queued and were on being served to the back of priorities, also they could just walk into the shop so it would seem that the covid rule of only 5 in the shop doesn’t apply to them!!! What a farcical experience!!!I think this Greggs needs staff training, for speedy, forward planning in peak times and customer service. I also they either need more staff if they are to keep taking orders, or not take orders at all and work with current staffing levels on a Saturday given that it’s a busy day.
Use this cafe frequently. Dec 11, passing with my dogs and struggling to make them safe the server recognised this from behind the counter, came to the door took my order and served me at the door. THANK YOU.
We parked in Bishopsgate and popped in here for breakfast early on a Sunday morning. The food was the usual Greggs offering, quality and price. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. Would come here again.
Have heard of Gregg's for a few years. Don't believe we have any at home. I wanted to have my sister try a sausage roll for the first time We found this one right down the street from the cathedral. Was surprised by the amount of choices. So we added a sausage, bean, and cheese pasty to share. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and helpful. Definitely a must do again. Lunch was 4 pounds 70 for the two of us.
