Highlighted for its dog-friendly atmosphere and generous portions, many guests enjoy the friendly service and welcoming vibe. However, recent reviews indicate significant inconsistencies in food quality, with complaints of reheated meals, burnt dishes, and cleanliness issues, particularly in the beer garden. While some found the dining experience pleasant, others reported disheartening service and unappetizing food, leading to dissatisfaction. Overall, Golden Cross presents a charming option for casual outings, yet potential diners should temper expectations regarding culinary excellence and service efficiency.
I hosted my 40th birthday party at this restaurant last night for 30 guests and I cannot recommend it highly enough! The attention to detail was outstanding and the service was incredibly efficient. The food was delicious, the wine selection was great, and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be returning!
After researching a good place to eat ostern Sunday afternoon we have the golden cross as “one of the best in the Cotswolds”. we found this inaccurate, as the "pan roasted lamming" wafer were thin and fat, roasted potatoes. clearly reheated, as they were hard and not crispy, “sweet-fried beef” was solid and chewing (probably reheated ash). Although I appreciate that they might have had a free day, as there are many good reviews, it was still a massive farewell. the waitress took the lamb frying the bill that was nice, but overall lacked the service; had to go into the bar to get drinks and the bill as no one came. Also note that they are “dog friendly” as long as your dog is coming with the habitable dogs and begging the table when they have a small / nervous dog, then I recommend that they really keep away from the steering.
Horrific place! dogepoo in the garden of the renter dog, fucked bar man without looking at young children around him. I never had such a bad experience in a pub! if I could give less than 1 star, I would. I hope that the management is not aware of how their employees talk to customers and if they are then they should be appalled.
I visited this pub with my family and was appalled with how we were treated! we spent £44 on a round of 4 drinks to then go to the back beer garden to get into a huge buck of dog poo..we let the bartender. know about it that came out to clarify it and then tell a man “they are fcuking on our nerves to get, I told them not to move the furniture and they would have been getting back to our old baby”... absolute gross
The lunch here looking for a dog friendly restaurant that served good eating, we were not disappointed. really friendly staff, good choice on the menu for us, eating was great, fast arrived, really generous portion sizes, delicious and very cheap. would highly recommend.
