Cortez Kitchen
Description
Nestled on the waterfront, Cortez Kitchen offers a lively atmosphere filled with live music and a casual vibe. While some patrons rave about the fresh seafood and flavorful dishes like the crab specials and braised short ribs, others have noted inconsistencies in food quality, with complaints of overcooked items and flat drinks. Service can be hit or miss, as some guests report friendly staff while others experience delays. The setting is charming but may come with unwelcome pests, so bug spray is recommended. Overall, this restaurant is a mixed bag, blending a fun ambiance with varying culinary experiences.

We loved the place, the food and the reception service. All delicious I hope to return. Good portions of food. The only thing was the mojito was bad. The waiter said it was coconut and he didn't taste like coconut. The rest recommended. We have been going to the kitchen for several years, every time we come to Longboat or Anna Maria. Usually visit at least twice a trip. We were a little disappointed with our first visit for this trip. Ordered 2 draft beers when we arrived. Beer wasn't cold. Ordered an appetizer of royal reds(gulf shrimp). They served us regular shrimp. Almost $22 for 8 regular shrimp was a bit much. Our 2nd appetizer of buffalo grouper bites was good, but almost no buffalo sauce . Grilled grouper dinner was excellent. Didn't make it back for the rest of our trip. Seems as though quality has dropped off.
We were a party of 4 adults on Friday evening. The food was just ok. I got the blackened grouper sandwich with onion rings. Hubs got peel eat shrimp and fries, friends got grouper sandwiches as well. I don't think it was worth the price to be honest. The beer was flat and not very cold. There was a live band playing at 7pm. We could barely fit through the tables, chairs, anddancing patrons to find a table out from under the cover. We could barely hear each other over the music. The bathroom alongwith most of the restaurant was dingy and did not look like they wipe down the tops of cabinets or display cases. By the timeour food arrived we were being eaten alive by sand fleas or noseeums. My legs are covered with bites. We were all a littledisappointed overall.
I got a fried grouper sandwich with hush puppies. The sandwich was amazing, the hush puppies were moist delicious. Vanessa was my server. She suggested this awesome sauce she loves to dip her hushpuppies in made it special. This was to die for!!! What a fabulous server super kind human being! I definitely will be back :
