Description

An evocative 13th–16th-century castle offers a rich historical experience—restored interiors, artifacts and period furnishings—framed by year-round gardens and orchards against an impressive backdrop. Currently closed for renovation and maintenance with inconsistent public hours and limited signage, visitors should check updates before traveling. When reopened it promises family-friendly, educational visits for history lovers, school groups and tourists, transforming this closed gem back into a memorable cultural destination.

This is a fascinating historical site that provides a wonderful experience of learning about artifacts, dishes, household items, and furniture. It was enjoyable to imagine what life would be like in a castle. I highly recommend visiting, and I plan to return myself once it reopens.

Four out of five when it's open. Most of the time it seems to be closed, what a pity. With it just being off the main Cork Waterford road it should be well able to open more. Didn't even see a sign of when it is open. A closed gem.

The restaurant is currently being renovated. It's great to see that castles are being restored during the lockdown. You definitely need to visit after they reopen!
