For a taste of the past at a traditional high tea, look no further than the Royal Hotel in Cookstown. Our group of 7 enjoyed a nostalgic dining experience in a charmingly decorated setting, thanks to our wonderful waitress Roslyn. She excelled in attending to all our needs and ensuring every detail was perfect. We indulged in endless pots of tea, delicate sandwiches with savory fillings, scones with jam and cream, muffins, and an array of exquisite slices displayed on towering cake plates. Roslyn and her staff were attentive, checking on us regularly and providing take-home boxes for leftovers. Roslyn even showcased her photography skills, capturing our reunion of Northern Irish and Australian cousins. Her professionalism, friendliness, and genuine care made us feel as though we had stepped back in time to an era when dining out was a delightful experience enhanced by exceptional cuisine and outstanding service.

I always used to speak highly of this restaurant and it was one of my top 5 favorite places to eat. However, my recent visit on Saturday evening left me feeling quite disappointed. After ordering our meals and drinks, it took at least half an hour for our drinks to arrive. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I went to check in the bar and found only one young girl serving drinks and she was very busy. When our meals finally arrived after nearly an hour, they were not up to par. My steak, which was supposed to be rare, was overcooked and tough to cut even with the steak knife. The champ was dry and seemed to have been under a heat lamp for too long. My wife's chicken was okay, but the onion rings were soggy and the Diane sauce was too thick. The service was also lacking as no one came to check if everything was alright. Hopefully, this was just a one-time incident as we usually love dining here.

Today myself and 3 friends had afternoon tea. I was blown away by the large spread of food we were given and how fresh and beautiful it all was. There were loads of different sandwiches and scones traybakes etc and even a dinky funky little soup which was fab. I cannot recommend it enough and service was brilliant such friendly helpful girls. I visit often for food and am never disappointed by the large tasty portions of fresh fabulous food. Keep up the good work Royal Hotel Cookstown
