The outside dining option provides a beautiful view over Coogee beach. However, some reviewers were disappointed with the limited menu and removal of certain dishes like steak. Despite this, other dishes such as chicken nuggets, bugs, and ribs were enjoyed. The service was mixed, with some staff being friendly and prompt while others were surly and indifferent. Overall, the food quality was described as average, but the overall atmosphere and value were praised. The venue was noted as a great spot for casual meetups, celebrations, and lazy afternoons. It was such a beautiful peaceful place-we had booked at coogee bay hotel but decided to go here as that place was too crowded and the service was terrible.we all had different things.we had the cold / hot fish platter and burgers.the helpings were big and the food was delicious.the decor was plain and homely.
If I had known about Après by the Sea early in June I would have booked my birthday here. If I lived east side I would be down at Oceans Dining & Drinks for Sunday Fundays and as for the food – it is marvellous and you want it on your plate. The venue is great and the design for Après by the Sea is warmly comforting and reminded me of the snow. The mulled wine and cocktails definitely aided in this. Have gone to Oceans for years and food has always been great.Took my family visiting from nz here tonight and what an embarrassment. We chose Oceans for the beach view and steak on the menu (online).Got there after making a reservation online. Firstly they looked blank about the reservation then scrambled to find us a table. The views out over the beach were covered up by net curtains ...why?The menu was limited. Mum had wanted a steak but this was not available. Upon further investigation I was told it was a new menu and the steak was removed. what the? No steak on a bistro style menu? The chicken nuggets for my daughter came out and looked great. Big chunks of chicken breast. They were the best part of the meal!To be fair my stepfather had the bugs and enjoyed them and husband the ribs which he enjoyed also. I had pizza .. pretty simple and what I've had many times before. When it came out it was cold and the cheese had congealed on the top. I don't usually complain but did tonight. The waitress apologized and said she'd get a fresh one made. 5 minutes later out comes the pizza - the same one. At least it was hot this time. Average though and not at all like they used to be. I ate half. The girl behind the bar taking our orders was surly and kept grumbling about the new menu each time we ordered something and she couldn't find it on the computer. She made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Then dessert .. I wasn't optimistic and was surprised there were only 3 things on offer. But mum felt like the apple pie. Two apple pies, a kids ice cream and an affagato were ordered. 5 minutes later the waitress came over to say they had no apple pies. Scratch that. So only 2 out of 3 desserts available at 6.30 pm on Sunday night. Then they forgot the affogato. We chased it up and it was plonked down in front of my husband ... without a spoon. It was all too hard. He used a fork to eat his ice cream in the end.We left and went to gelatissimo!! Very disappointing how much the food has gone downhill. Such a shame and made me wonder if management had changed. I won't be back in a hurry ☹️
Great staff, great food! Booked a table of our choice over looking the ocean, staff friendly and helpful.
