There's a lot of grease in the fryer and on the menu! And portions are Texas sized. But if you enjoy crunchy catfish, this is the place. The highlight is their fresh salad and fresh cut fries. The catfish is fresh, possibly as fresh asyou can get! But it is heavily corn breaded. My first bite was a little overwhelming. Okra is home breaded, not frozen, but Ican't say the same for the hush puppies. Plates come piled and hush puppies are never ending.

The prices were rea... read more We've wanted to try Vernon’s Kuntry Katfish for years and finally made it on Mother’s Day. The staff were friendly, pleasant, and attentive. The prices were reasonable considering the generous portion sizes. The food was very good overall. At our table, the fried shrimp, country fries, tots, green beans, fried okra, and shrimp tacos all received high praise. The fried oysters, chicken fried steak, and frog legs were decent, though the frog legs could use a bit more seasoning in the breading, but they were still enjoyable. Most of us plan to return to Vernon’s Kuntry Katfish to explore more items on their menu.

However, the food left much to be desired. The fried green tomatoes were only lightly battered in the center and lacked flavor, making the accompanying ranch dressing necessary. While the portions of catfish were generous, it was overcooked, and the cornmeal batter was bland and unseasoned. The green beans tasted canned, with barely a hint of bacon. The mashed potatoes were passable but also needed more seasoning. The chicken fried steak was served immediately after frying without any resting time, resulting in a soggy texture with each bite due to the gravy. Overall, we appreciated the staff and atmosphere, but the food did not meet our expectations.
