Was Dave W at Avenue Bistro a mag?
We visited the restaurant to celebrate my birthday, courtesy of my wife, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience for both of us. The space was clean, spacious, and bright. Our waiter was attentive and well-informed. Both of our meals were expertly prepared and delicious. I must highlight my dish—the Tagliatelle—it was possibly the best seafood medley I’ve ever had. Absolutely top-notch! View all feedback.
What Dave W dislikes about Avenue Bistro:
This is my second review of Avenue. My first one praised their outstanding Tagliatelle, which I still stand by. However, my recent experience was disappointing. I just returned from a Father's Day dinner where I ordered a full rack of ribs, and unfortunately, they were incredibly tough – they should never have left the kitchen. I believe in giving credit where it's due, but I also have to point out when a meal falls... View all feedback.
A friend and I ate at Avenue this past weekend. We waited almost 60 minutes for our appetizers. The server did not once approach us to let us know there was a delay with our food nor did the owners, but they continued to walk by us for an hour. We finally received our first two dishes, the food was amazing. After our appetizers we then waited for at least 20 minutes before our dirty plates were cleared to allow for our final dishes to be served. Again, the server and the owners walked by our table several times and did not clear our plates. The restaurant was not full and I am shocked as to the awful service from the owners. I will send huge kudos to the Chef, this was the recovery for our evening. I would give the food a 5 star, as for the service, I would maybe give it a one star. Message to the owners, you have an amazing gem of a restaurant, your chefs food was amazing. Do not ignore your guests. Help your servers! If there is a delay in the food, no problem, talk to your guests.
Writing a review of a restaurant is a first for me, as a previous restaurant owner I understand things can go wrong. This was blatant rudeness on the part of the owner. There are a multitude of fast food restaurants in this town. If I want to eat and run I can go there. We go to dine! That means that we will order wine, order an appetizer, main course and sometimes dessert. When you tell a customer they have 90 minutes and at the 60 minute mark we are warned that we have to leave in 30 min, what kind of customer service is that? Not the first time you have done this, if you had a line up at the door, if there were no empty tables I might have understood, This was not the case. We continued our discussion for another 30 minutes on the street where we were parked. You have lost good regular customers, you should take some lessons from Martine's they know what customer service is. Not only that the owner always has a smile on his face!
We were traveling through Courtenay and were looking for a nice comfortable and friendly restaurant that served a full dinner. We ate Oysters, Tuna Salad, Short Ribs and Red Curry dinner with Prawns. It was all beyond delicious and fair value. Jo was the lady that served us with lots of good suggestions. We left completely satisfied with our meal in wonderful welcoming surroundings. Michelle met us when we arrived and made us feel totally welcome.
Food is more expensive these days but Avenue Bistro could do better with their fish and chips offering. 1 piece of halibut and fries was 26 and a side of coleslaw was an extra 2. The fish was OK but a bit dry. The batter was light but not exceptional(it was take out but we ate within 10 minutes). All in all, the box was pretty disappointing on opening: especially if one ishungry, which I was. The piece of fish was small and the offering of fries was dismal and so much so that I thought it was amistake but all 3 orders fell to the same meagre level. OK, halibut is pricey but fries aren 't. The most lame element was the side of coleslaw it was served in a tiny plastic cup the same size as the tartar sauce about 1 2 tablespoons (not anexaggeration it was about 1 mouthful). Cabbage is cheap so perhaps they could loosen up a little on the portion size. Inoverview, pretty disappointing as I 'd heard many say it was a great place to eat in Comox. Maybe they 're catering to the retireecrowd that want a smaller meal but for the price, these must be well to do retirees. I won 't be heading back value for wasdismal. Food quality was OK but far from exceptional.
