We were there two weeks ago for a bridal shower for my granddaughter. So pleased with everything! The staff, Nick and Maddie were the best! They made each and everyone feel special! The food was amazing! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone whowants to enjoy great atmosphere and exceptional food and service. Just wish I lived closer! Thanks for making a special eventeven better!
First I want to give a shout out to the server Jeff he did a great job. We got the jalapeño cornbread. It was decent. $10 for 2 small loaves seems steep. For my entree I got the fried chicken with green beans instead of Brussels. The chicken batterdidn’t have much flavor but the meat was moist. The gravy made the bottom soggy. The center of grits were ok not the best. Thestar was really the green beans. For dessert I got the cheese cake and that was tasty. My friend got the upside down strawberrycake. I think they just used the leftover cornbread batter with some Jam. It was grainy and not very good and again $10 each forthose. Total bill was $110 and we didn’t even get alcohol. Just over priced and mediocre. One of the biggest disappointmentswas I booked a reservation for a birthday and they did nothing to make it special. No song. No free dessert. Didn’t even sayhappy birthday.
We’re always looking for more places in Columbus that do Brussels sprouts right. These Brussels were different, but still not in our fave top 3. However, Hubbard’s is a good place to go for happy hour. If you don’t want a full blown dinner, you caneasily fill up on happy hour food drink specials plus an app or two.
I left the review below two months ago and gave the restaurant five stars. I came back today, 11/22/22 and again ordered the salmon plate. But the two plates are just not the same. And, IMHO, Hubbard took a big step backwards with this change. Thesalmon plate in August was beautiful and the flavors were delicious, delicate, and distinct. The Nov 2022 salmon plate was ahuge disappointment. The salmon still tasted great but there was only one other flavor, a heavy and sweet glaze. The asparaguswas replaced with meaningless and pointless kale. The rice in the August plate was replaced by equally meaningless quinoa. Boththe kale and the quinoa added nothing to the plate other than a vehicle for delivering the sweet glaze. There were only twoflavors in this dish, and rather than compliment one another, they were in competition. The second most disappointing aspect ofthis November salmon plate is the introduction of a potato squash chunks. I cared neither for their flavor as a paring withsalmon, however much disguised by the sweet glaze, nor for their dry, mushy texture. But the most disappointing aspect of theNovember plate when compared to the August plate was the substantially reduced size of the salmon portion. I finished the plate, which, by the way, was about the same price as the original, in just a few minutes and then picked up the menu in search formore. That story would have warranted 4 stars because the salmon itself was still tasty and properly cooked. But, it’s three, because I was also disappointed by the facts that Hubbard discontinued the olive dish, which I was looking forward to as anappetizer, and they were out of cheese cake, their most appealing dessert, and they let Vee go (pictured), the most entertainingof bartenders. So, on this particular night, I’ll finish my now routine drive from Akron to Cincinnati feeling sorry that Ididn’t try something new on the amazing High Street in Columbus OH. August 2022… This place is amazing.
A year ago I visited Hubbard's (via OpenTable reservation) and had a poor experience. I reviewed it as such, and the manager apologized, and asked me to give them another shot. While the visit wasn't perfect, my opinion of Hubbard's is completely changed. The food was EXCELLENT. Hubbard's is now on my list of restaurants I will be sure to visit when I'm in Columbus.
