We arrived as part of a large party for christmas dinner. We chose the baked cod which was served first. We were both given the tail end of the cod, which was dry, grey, and inedible. The vegetables were boiled into mush, sprouts and carrots. Potatoes were one roast and two scoops of mash which were grey and unappetising. We returned our food to the waitress who offered no apology. We were told that the cod would be freshly cooked for us. On arrival, it was a better cut of fish, and moist. We were able to eat the fish and one roast potato each. The sauce accompanying the fish was like yellow milk which we could not use. The second plate of food arrived on cold greasy plates. No apology was proferred! Another of our party beside us had roast beef which was tough and very difficult to cut through (he did not complaint as he thought there was no point as staff were indifferent and uninterested). Coffee served was watery with no coffee taste. There was no accompnying biscuit offered. After the meal we tried several times to get a drink from the bar but there were no staff there or at reception. When ee eventually got served the beer was served in an obviously dirty glass. When pointed out to the barmaid, ther was no response and no apology. Terrible disapointment on what should have been a relaxing and happy xmas day out. We will not return.
My husband and I called in today for soup and tea. We were served quickly in the restaurant. There was no-one else there at the time. We ordered soup and tea. The soup was piping hot and very tasty, although it was served in quite a small bowl. I would have appreciated a bigger serving as we were not ordering anything else. Two soups and tea for two came to over ten pounds, which I thought was a bit expensive.
2 visits during our weeks holiday. Firstly for an early evening drive by for a quick meal. Whilst the restaurant was particularly quiet we had an excellent main course meal the was well presented and with good service. Our waitress was chatty informative about the local area, and made it a very (quickish) but pleasant stop. Returned again (as guests of relatives) for the Sunday Carvery Lunch. Again well presented with food hot obviously plentiful. Left room for the puds (great choice) a lovely touch was when we were recognised by the same waitress from 4 days previous. It never fails to amaze how such a small detail can make so much more of a meal. Well done!
My friend received a voucher for a meal at this restaurant, so we decided to try the Sunday carvery. If I had to pay for it, I wouldn't go back. The young female servers seemed more interested in chatting than serving. When we went to get our main meal from the carvery, we had to wait for about 5 minutes because there was no one there to carve the meat. The staff walked past us and saw the situation but did nothing to help. We also witnessed a family next to us with a baby in a high chair. When they lifted the baby to nurse her, the staff took the chair away and gave it to another family that had just arrived, leaving the first family to figure out how to nurse their child while eating. Overall, it was not a good experience.
