Was Anonym at El Penascal a mag?
Eating in Coban is a unique experience compared to other regions in Guatemala. It is definitely different from dining in the capital. I started my meal with a hearty cacao drink. It was rich and creamy with chunks of cacao that gave it a satisfying texture. For dinner, I enjoyed a hot, sweet, and flavorful drink made from cocoa beans, not powder. What Anonym dislikes about El Penascal:
Food was just ok; nothing special and quite expensive for Guatemala this is not really a particularly fancy place either. Service wasn’t particularly friendly but what really spoiled things was when, after bringing the check, the waiter mentioned three times that the tip wasn’t included and hovered over us watching to see how much we left really do not dig that. Won’t be back. View all feedback.

We came here to have kaq ik as it was for this traditional dish of coban recomended. it was delicious! friendly staff.
When I visit cobán, I never miss the opportunity to have dinner in the peñascal. with its beautiful and clean atmosphere, it is the best place to enjoy the local kitchen. they can try the kaq ik, the most famous and delicious local dish. it is a tasty truthahn stew, which is served with chile cobanero and deceit from white maisteig. it is accompanied by kakaw, a bitter hot cocoa drink served in calabash dishes. also the steak in cardamom sauce and the sub’anik (steel with four meats) are very typical and delicious dishes. it is true that even in the capital these dishes are served, but only in cobán they get the original taste.
Excellent service and really nice people. There weren’t any real vegan/vegetarian options but I could order something and they would make it vegan. I ended up eating lovely and my family enjoyed their meat dishes. It’s a place where local people also come!
