Reviews praise Freemasons’ friendly service, breakfasts and wine list but note occasional inconsistencies: some dishes arrive warm and background music is sometimes remarked upon.

We received a Warm Wellcome from Andrew and his staff . We were given the Fox room a beautiful room with a shower and bath . We had a great nights sleep in a super king size bed . We had the taster menu for dinner and breakfast, the new chef is a great find excellent food , great presentation. Andrew was true to his word and gave our table complementary bottles of wines. This is our second stay at the Freemasons we can’t wait to return . Highly recommended

Absolutely fantastic, the 6 course tasting menu and the breakfast the next morning are truly superb. We stayed in the “Mr Fox” room which was again superb. The staff are great and for a country pub the experience is very very good. I’d recommend to anyone in heartbeat.

Really positive experience at The Freemasons. Warm reception upon arrival and a good quality of food throughout. Some dishes were a little rich for some of our party, and the price point is high but we knew that and budgeted accordingly. Good range of options on the menu so that you can manage the price point. Will definitely be back. Waiting service was very professional. Busy throughout the night, a clear indicator of a good atmosphere.

More information

Though guests rave about the breakfasts and the tasting menu, several reviewers note the kitchen sometimes swaps courses or leans more pub-style on a given night—if you have your heart set on a specific format (multi-course tasting vs. hearty gastropub plates), calling ahead to confirm the evening’s menu can make a big difference.
