Food drinks: The Bleu Canoe restaurant is not to be missed.
I almost hesitate to write this review, because I 'm afraid so many people will flock to this little piece of heaven in the north Georgia mountains that I won 't be able to visit without booking far in advance! Nevertheless, here I go... For my husband and my 26th wedding anniversary, we decided to get away to the north Georgia mountains for a few days away from the kids (our first time away from them for this long, although the youngest is a teenager . One night I was googling a place near Clarkesville where my high school marching band used to spend a week every summer for band camp. I was wondering whatever happened to that place, since many high school groups across the state used to travel there for summer camp, such as football camp, band camp, majorette camp, etc. I was excited to find it recently became a tiny house campground with a fabulous restaurant! I already wrote a review for the Bleu Canoe restaurant (which was so fabulous that we ate there every night of our stay , so I will just focus on the campground. Hubby and I stayed in the Maple tiny house, which was so cute! I can 't say enough about the cleanliness of the place. I am OCD-picky when it comes to cleanliness and germs, so I was very pleased that everything was beyond my expectations. Most of the tiny homes are brand new (I believe just a couple of years old , and the older original fish cabins have been completely renovated to like-new. I stayed in one of those old cabins back in high school, and I have to say the owners did an amazing job of renovation on those cabins!! Breakfast was provided, with a basket of fresh fruit (navel oranges , packets of oatmeal and grits, boxes of a variety of cereal, and quite a few granola bars. Also included in the mini-fridge were little bottles of milk and orange juice. From what I understand, all of the houses come with a kitchenette and full bathroom; outside, a fire pit (with a place to purchase split wood at a very reasonable price with chairs and a picnic table round out the glamping experience. My hubby and I took advantage of our time and hiked the three-mile loop that led right out from our cabin, and explored the Clarkesville area on several of the beautiful waterfall hiking trails. Because the campground is remote, you will only find Wi-Fi near the main area (where the restaurant is , but we enjoyed the break from the rat race by being in nature while still living in comfort! Fun fact: I was very pleased to see that the old football field still exists. The owner told me that nature had overtaken it, so he had it cut back to the original football field measurements, with the exception of an island of trees where he plans to put hammocks for visiting guests (I can 't wait to come back in the summer to relax there! . The field is now called a star-gazing field, and my hubby and I walked out one night when the sky was clear, and we were just mesmerized at the many stars we could see. Other fun things available are corn hole games--located where the old swimming pool used to be, which is now a beautiful patio section that sometimes has fire pits lit for guests in the evenings (it mostly rained when we were there, so we didn 't get to peruse these activities . I really enjoyed going back in time to this place and am glad to see that it has been remade into a place where my family and I can return and enjoy nature. I loved the place in high school for band camp, and I love it now as a glamping campground!
We had a great time at our stay at Blue Canoe! We will go back!
Cool romantic getaway. Onsite restaurant is really good. Close to ton of hiking trails. Tiny homes are cozy!
